Balyasny secures Abu Dhabi regulatory approval

Another asset manager is putting down deeper roots in Abu Dhabi. Balyasny Asset Management has secured regulatory approval to operate in the emirate, adding to a growing list of investment firms expanding in the UAE, Fn London reports.

Balyasny's Abu Dhabi entity received approval from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority on 30 June. The firm, which manages USD 37 bn in assets, is expected to grow its local team across a range of investment strategies, including equity long/short, commodities, systematic investing, multi-asset arbitrage, fixed income, and macro strategies.

The office is being led by portfolio manager Yash Agarwal, who relocated from London to Abu Dhabi earlier this year after joining Balyasny from ExodusPoint Capital Management. The new license builds on Balyasny's existing presence in the UAE after the firm secured regulatory approval in Dubai in 2023.

Equiti Group launches Bengaluru tech hub

UAE-based fintech firm Equiti Group launched a tech hub in Bengaluru as part of its strategy to accelerate AI-led product development and strengthen its global engineering capabilities, according to a press release.

Why it matters: The launch reinforces the case for a growing UAE-India fintech corridor. While Dubai and the wider GCC continue to serve as preferred regional headquarters for fintech firms, India is increasingly emerging as the engineering backbone — tech firms are placing high-value AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and software functions in India while retaining customer-facing and commercial operations in the Gulf.
