TEDA is asking Egypt for more land as investor demand grows

TEDA wants more room in SCZone: The China-Egypt Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (TEDA) is asking the Egyptian government for additional land to double its size inside the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to accommodate rising investor demand, according to statements by TEDA marketing and promotion head Mohamed Gabrial. The China-Egypt industrial zone reached over 10 sq km following a July 2025 expansion agreement that added 2.86 sq km to its previous 7.34 sq km footprint, and around 200 industrial and service companies are now operating inside.

Why it matters: TEDA’s land allocation request signals that Egypt’s China-led manufacturing pipeline is turning into a denser industrial cluster, not just a series of standalone factory announcements. Several Chinese manufacturing projects came online in Sokhna earlier this year, including Elite Solar's solar cells, panels, and components factories, Xinjin's textile complex, Vanward's water-heater and components facility, and CEC's ball bearings plant. Additional TEDA land would give that pipeline a larger industrial base to scale from.
