Potential UPS strike could disrupt the movement of some 19 mn packages a day: A potential strike by 340k unionized workers at United Parcel Service (UPS) could set back the progress made in addressing inflation and supply-chain disruptions in the US, Bloombergreports. If no labor agreement is reached by 1 August, the walkout could disrupt shipments of 19 mn daily packages and allow competitors like FedEx to raise prices to limit the amount of packages redirected into its network.
The demands: UPS workers want better pay, particularly for part-time workers, with demands to raise wages above USD 20 per hour, as well as better working conditions. The union president mentioned that there is a significant gap of about USD 6-7 per hour between the two parties’ proposals, according to Bloomberg.
