#1- American Hospital Dubai to expand in Nigeria: Dubai-based American Hospital is planning to kick off global expansion with the establishment of three medical tourism offices in Nigeria this year, the hospital said in a statement. Under the expansion plan, American Hospital will establish 30 offices across Africa and Eastern Europe to “support the UAE’s efforts to be the global medical tourism hub and facilitate patient access to American Hospital Dubai’s medical services.”
#2- Sharjah-Italy health collaboration: The Sharjah Health Authority met with an Italian delegation at Sharjah’s House of Wisdom to discuss potential partnerships between Italian health institutions and Sharjah's University Hospital, Sharjah24 reports.
#3- The Health and Prevention Ministry and other UAE health authorities launched a digital system for healthcare professionals’ career progression on the sidelines of Arab Health,according to a ministry statement. The Healthcare Workforce Decision Support System (HRH-UAE) was developed to manage healthcare professionals' career progression, covering studies, training, licensing, and employment.
#4- Dubai Health Authority partners with autism centers for better ASD healthcare and education: The Dubai Health Authority inked an agreement with the Dubai Autism Center and Emirates Autism Society, aimed at delivering healthcare services for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including students in special needs schools, Wam reports.The agreement encompasses training staff in Dubai's special needs schools in foundational approaches as well as “enhanced scientific and practical methods to engage with students with ASD in line with the best global protocols, systems, and procedures in this field”. The program also involves offering courses for caregivers.
TOURISM-
Indian travelers can now get a pre-approved visa upon arrival to the UAE: VFS Global will provide Indian passport holders traveling via Emirates airline with a pre-approved 14-day single-entry visa upon arrival, allowing those who have booked with the airline to skip queues upon landing, the airline said in a press release.
TECHNOLOGY-
#1- Emirates NBD employs Silent Eight financial crime prevention system: Emirates NBD signed a partnership agreement with Singapore-based financial crime prevention firm Silent Eight, incorporating Silent Eight’s AI-powered financial crime alert system into the bank’s screening process, according to a press release.
#2- Norwegian risk management company DNV opened a new training facility in Abu Dhabi, dubbed the Training Hub for Industrial Knowledge (THInK), to emulate high-risk scenarios, according to a press release. The facility will offer personalized training with in-person, virtual, and hybrid sessions, including internationally accredited courses focused on heavy industries such as safety, lifting, mobile elevating work platforms, earthmoving machinery, and scaffolding. It will also incorporate virtual reality to replicate experiences in these industries.
STARTUPS-
#1- UAE-based startup Airev will use G42 subsidiary Core42’s AI solutions to improve Arabic language capabilities on its online learning platformSchool Hack, according to a press release. Core42 offerings include the world’s largest Arabic open-source large language model (LLM) and an AI supercomputer.
#2- Dubai-based ride-hailing and delivery app Careem forked out AED 709k for late orders in 2023 as part of its AEDs for Delays campaign, which promises to reimburse customers AED 1 for every minute their food is late, The National quotes VP of food at Careem Jaskaran Singh as saying. Only one in 20 deliveries were late during the year, Singh said.
#3- Connecting social media influencers with regional brands: Technology startup MitgoGroup launched a platform dubbed Takefluence, linking content creators and social media influencers with regional brands, according to a press release.
CUSTOMS-
Huawei to digitize Dubai’s customs systems? Dubai Customs met yesterday with a delegation from Chinese tech giant Huawei to discuss enhancing collaboration in digitization and information technology, as well as the introduction of digital customs procedures, according to a press release.
REAL ESTATE-
#1- Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has kicked off the second phase of Uptown Dubai,breaking ground on two additional mid-rise towers with 70k sqm of commercial office space and 8k sqm of F&B and retail, according to the Dubai Media Office. The firm onboarded Dubai-based construction company Swissboring Overseas Piling Corporation for the enabling and foundation works.
#2- DMCC’s Uptown Dubai project now includes a total of nine towers, expected to span 538k sqm — 232k sqm of which is office space — upon completion. The company previously booked architects WATG and Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture for construction.
EDUCATION-
#1- AUS students off to Poland? The American University of Sharjah (AUS) and AGHUniversity of Krakow, Poland, inked an agreement yesterday to swap teaching methods as well as faculty and students in facilitated exchange programs, reports Wam. The agreement will also see the two educational players host joint academic events, research projects, and dual degree programs.
#2- Abu Dhabi University (ADU) students will also get the chance to study in Europe, after ADU signed an agreement with the Italy-Czech Republic Chamber of Commerce to enable joint research collaborations and grant applications with European universities,according to a press release.
ALSO- ADU will work with the chamber on a research initiative, competence center MBA program: The entities will also launch a research center for entrepreneurship studies and startups in the UAE and Italy, in addition to a competence center for the agri-food supply chain. ADU will also inaugurate a new MBA program in partnership with Italy’s Università Bocconi, partnering on consultancy services and training sessions.
