New faces at Bank of Algeria + Finance Ministry

Lebbou is moving on from the central bank just six months after taking on the role

New FinMin + central bank leadership in Algeria: Mohand Bourai (LinkedIn) is now Algeria’s central bank governor, while outgoing Bank of Algeria Governor Mohammed Lamine Lebbou has transitioned to a new role as finance minister. Lebbou takes over from Abdelkrim Bouzred.

The changes took effect last week, after Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced a partial cabinet reshuffle. Lebbou was tapped to lead the Finance Ministry only six months after he was appointed central bank governor. The shuffle also included changes for the ministries of labor, agriculture and communications.

Mohand Bourai is an experienced Algerian banking executive with a career spanning several decades in the country's financial sector. He has held top leadership positions, including serving as Director General of the Banque de l'Agriculture et du Développement Rural (BADR) and holding key executive roles at CNEP-Banque.
