The shift to older tankers comes as charterers, who would usually not take on tankers of 15 years of age, are seeing their tankers age more rapidly, amid a lack of newbuild tankers, Splash reports. The work rate of tankers over 20 years old grew by 84% since the invasion of Ukraine, Braemer says. Older tankers such as Aframaxes for crude have also seen their average work rate nearly quadruple since the start of the war over a year ago.
