The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and Rotterdam Port have inked an agreement to collaborate on private sector partnerships, according to a Mawani statement. The two bodies will work to outsource terminal operations to private sector players while retaining government overwatch and ownership in a framework referred to as “port corporatization.” The widely-applied business model looks to up efficiency and productivity at ports while also boosting private sector experience and abilities.
They will also cooperate in other areas: Smart ports, human capital development, knowledge sharing, and performance optimization are all targets for collaboration, the statement said.
Last month saw KSA’s port regulator ink a similar agreement with Port of Antwerp International (PAI): The agreement looks to boost cooperation on port optimization, digitization, and capacity building.
