Arkas Line makes first-ever container call at Egypt’s Safaga Port

Arkas Line’s Saskia A has made the first-ever container call at Safaga Port, with Arkas Egypt handling vessel coordination, regulatory clearances, and port agency services, according to a press release (pdf). The move positions Safaga as a hub linking international shipping routes to Egypt and its neighbors, and expands its capabilities to handle containerized cargo.

Doubling down on Safaga: The UAE’s AD Ports’ Noatum Ports began trial operations at its USD 200 mn Safaga terminal last month after receiving three ship-to-shore cranes and six rubber-tired gantry cranes in April. The multipurpose terminal is targeting a full launch in 2H 2026 and is designed to handle 450k TEUs annually, dry bulk and general cargo, liquid bulk, and Ro-Ro cargo.
