A new agricultural terminal in Dubai: UAE-based port operator DP World, crop trader Al Amir Foods, and agricultural trader Adroit Overseas Canada have broken ground on a new AED 550 mn (USD 150 mn) on an agri terminals complex at Jebel Ali Port, according to a Dubai Media Office statement. The agricultural processing and silo storage facility terminal will specialize in the storage and processing of agricultural products including pulses, grains, corn, and soybeans. The first phase — of two planned — is slated for completion early next year, the statement notes.

Details: The Agri Terminals facility, covering a quayside area of 100k square meters (sqm), is expected to boost bulk handling capacity at Jebel Ali Port by some 750k tonnes and total storage capacity by 200k tonnes, the statement said. DP World will supply infrastructure such as pneumatic ship unloaders and advanced conveying equipment to the terminal’s operations.

The move is a boon for the UAE’s food security: The new terminal is strategically located at Jebel Ali Port which handles some 73% of the UAE’s food and beverage trade. The new facility is also expected to generate upwards of AED 1.2 bn in new international trade, the statement added.
