New projects inJubail’s Commercial and Industrial Ports: The Saudi PortsAuthority (Mawani) has inaugurated new projects at Jubail Commercial and Industrial Ports to boost throughput capacity and upgrade infrastructure at the ports, including a railway connecting the ports, according to a statement. The value of investments in the projects were not disclosed.

Mawani is also launching a petrochemical hub in Jubail: The projects include establishing a modern petrochemical hub, with ten berths and a storage area, according to the statement.

The impacts: Aside from boosting capacity, the projects aim to reduce congestion, minimize the port’s carbon footprint, and expand shipping operations, according to the statement.

About the Jubail ports: The commercial port is equipped with 16 berths fitted with new equipment, and machinery. It has an operational capability to handle more than 1.5 mn containers annually, with a capacity of up to 36 mn tons, according to the release. King Fahad Industrial Port, also located in Jubail, is the world’s largest industrial port that also handles diverse petrochemical products, and contains 34 berths that handle more than some 100 petrochemical products annually, including agricultural fertilizers, sulfur, and petroleum coke, according to the statement. It also has a capacity to handle up to 70 mn tons.
