Iraq’s Nasiriyah International Airport is set to be completed by mid 2025, Zawya reports, citing Iraq’s planning ministry spokesperson Abdul Zahra Al Hindawi. The airport is considered to become a strategically and economically significant project for the Iraqi civil aviation sector, Hindawi added.
The details: The airport’s capacity will reach 750k passengers annually in the first phase, with essential project elements including passenger terminal buildings, 5k square meter cargo buildings, an additional runway, a firefighting station, an airport hotel and 25 km of roads.
Background: Construction work on the airport started mid-2022 spanning over a 15 mn square meter and could be finalized by mid-2025, Zawya reported earlier. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) will construct the airport.
