Robo-food delivery to expand in Dubai: The Dubai Road and Transport Authority’s (RTA) self-driving robots are making some 100 food deliveries a week to homes in pilot areas across the city, The National reports. After successfully completing a three-month trial period in pilot areas, there are plans to expand the project to more areas and “get more vendors on board,” Krillov added.
How they work: The technology used for the bots, which are developed by Yandex Self Driving Group, allows the devices to drive on pavements, cross roads, and navigate traffic. Trial data has shown that the bots run autonomously 97% of the time, with human involvement required if the bot gets stuck. The robots are well-suited for remote areas where couriers might be unwilling to go for a single job, Sergei Kirillov from Self Driving Group told The National.
