Iran wants to establish a new port on the Gulf of Oman, Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Shahriar Afandizadeh said, according to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tansim. The new port will be located at Mobanear the Jask oil terminal and will complement the existing Chabahar Port, which is currently the country’s only oceanic port.

Feasibility studies have determined the project’s viability: Feasibility studies conducted by the Roads and Urban Development Ministry and the Ports and Maritime Organization demarcated the boundaries for the new port and have determined the viability of its proposed location at Kooh Mobarak.

Road and rail networks will be designed to meet the port’s requirements and facilitate seamless connections with both domestic and international areas, Afandizadeh reportedly said.

Iran is working on developing its strategic Makran coastline: The port project is in line with the country's five-year socioeconomic and cultural development plan, which aims to enhance Iran's maritime economy, Tasnim writes. A new port on the Gulf of Oman will also be a boon for the country’s plans to develop the Makran coast, Afandizadeh explained.
