Australia risks losing green hydrogen race to MENA and the US: Despite its green energy advantages, Australia risks losing the race to build a green hydrogen sector due to sizable policy support in MENA and the US, the Guardian reports Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) Director Guy Debelle saying. The Biden administration’s recently-passed Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is encouraging renewables companies to move to the US, while oil-rich countries in the GCC and MENA are working to build a clean hydrogen sector by making land and resources available for firms, Debelle says. “There’s a risk that, despite Australia’s great comparative advantages in green energy, the US and the Middle East are going to eat our lunch,” he adds. FFI has itself been exploring green hydrogen prospects in MENA, as we’ve noted previously.
