The UAE has become Africa\u2019s fourth largest inve<\/strong>stor<\/strong>, with investments in the continent growing nearly fivefold over the past two decades, the Financial Times<\/a> reports. Its cumulative investments have neared USD 60 bn over the past decade, the FT writes in its look at the global shift towards Africa amid China\u2019s waning influence in the continent. <\/strong><\/p>\n

MEAN<\/strong>WHILE- <\/strong>CNBC<\/a><\/strong> is the latest to look at Microsoft\u2019s <\/strong>USD 1.5 bn investment<\/a><\/strong> in <\/strong>IHC-backed <\/strong>G42<\/strong>, spotlighting how it indirectly grants the US an edge in its tech race with China, thanks to the UAE's favorable regulatory environment and state-capitalist governance driving \u201cfaster AI innovation.\u201d <\/p>\n

The US\u2019 investment in the country means China \u201cis less likely to be there,\u201d <\/strong>a tech analyst told CNBC. Still, \u201cMicrosoft investing in AI in the UAE should be viewed positively by the tech community, as well as western governments,\u201d the analyst said, adding that \u201cin 10 years, you could see a bustling start-up community in the UAE where AI innovation happens.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
