The <\/strong>Financial Times<\/a><\/strong> is out with a big read on the UAE\u2019s increased influence as an <\/strong>investor <\/strong>in Africa,<\/strong> with the country pledging USD 97 bn in new African investments in 2022 and 2023. Investments targeted renewable energy, ports, mining, and real estate, and outpaced China \u2014 previously the largest investor in Africa \u2014 by more than three times. The UAE\u2019s total investments in Africa stand at USD 110 bn, an unnamed UAE official told the newswire.<\/p>\n

Growing UAE-China relations were the topic of conversation in <\/strong>CNBC\u2019s interview<\/strong> (<\/strong>watch,<\/a><\/strong>runtime: 5:22<\/a><\/strong>) <\/strong>with Afshin Molavi,<\/strong> senior fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies\u2019s Foreign Policy Institute. \u201cChinese strategic planners seem to understand the commercial geography of the UAE well,\u201d Molavi said, adding that UAE ports are considered \u201cimportant crossroads\u201d gridding to East Africa, South Asia, and across the Middle East.
