S&P attributed the UAE\u2019s market contribution to the hosting of COP28 in November, and the Securities and Commodities Authority\u2019s (SCA) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sca.gov.ae\/en\/media-center\/news\/11\/12\/2023\/green-bonds-and-sukuk-issuances-in-uae-reach-aed15-billion-sca.aspx#:~:text=The%20SCA's%20decision%20to%20exempt,of%20these%20Sukuk%20and%20bonds.%22\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">decision<\/a> to waive registration fees from sustainable bonds. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Some AED <\/strong><strong>28<\/strong><strong>.7 bn worth of sukuk (c. USD 7.8 bn) went to market in the UAE over the first six months of 2023<\/strong>, up from the AED 24.6 bn (c. USD 6.7 bn) posted over the entire 12 months of 2022, according to the CBUAE\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/12\/1555.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Islamic Finance Report 2023 (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Global sukuk issuances cooled off in 2023: <\/strong>Global sukuk issuances fell by 6.1% y-o-y to USD 168.4 bn during the year on the back of Saudi Arabia\u2019s monetary tightening measures and Indonesia\u2019s lower fiscal deficit, according to the S&P\u2019s report. However, the drop was offset by higher-value FX-denominated issuances in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and a handful of new sukuk issuers, such as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/cd0c08d3-1b95-4683-bc1c-6c238dd8e128\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Philippines<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/23\/egypts-debut-usd-1-5-bn-sovereign-sukuk-issuance-wraps-4x-oversubscribed-97675\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Egypt<\/a>, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Local currency-denominated sukuk also fell, but not here: <\/strong>While local currency-denominated sukuk issuances declined globally by 16.8% y-o-y, they increased in the Emirates due to the government launching <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mof.gov.ae\/uae-announces-launching-domestic-dirhams-islamic-treasury-sukuk-t-sukuk-with-size-of-aed-1-1-billion\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">AED-denominated T-Sukuk<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Moody\u2019s called it:<\/strong> Moody\u2019s Investors Service expected that global sukuk issuances in 2023 would fall to range between USD 150-160 bn \u201con lower volumes from major sovereign issuers, mostly reflecting an improving fiscal position across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and South-East Asia,\u201d the ratings agency <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/2368356\/business-economy#:~:text=RIYADH%3A%20Global%20sukuk%20issuances%20are,according%20to%20Moody's%20Investors%20Service.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">projected<\/a> last September. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Financial pressures to propel issuances in 2024:<\/strong> Issuances in the UAE are expected to increase over the upcoming years on the back of the government\u2019s efforts to grow the local capital market.
