Mubadala ranked third globally among the largest investing SWFs, investing USD 17.5 bn, with Adia right behind with USD 13.2 bn. ADQ secured the eighth spot with USD 5.8 bn worth of investments in 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The report dubbed the GCC the \u201cregion of the year\u201d on the back of USD 82.3 bn in investment activity.<\/strong>GCC sovereign funds\u2019 assets surged to USD 4.1 tn in 2023,led by Adia, which commands USD 984 bn in assets under management, according to Global SWF. Together with Mubadala, ADQ and other SWFs, the UAE holds wealth exceeding USD 2 tn, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.khaleejtimes.com\/business\/combined-assets-of-uaes-public-bodies-hit-2-5tr\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Khaleej Times<\/a> reported in October, citing Global SWF\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalswf.com\/ranking\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">updated ranking<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Oil is the answer, once again: <\/strong>GCC wealth funds\u2019 robust performance came on the back of a \u201csustained high level of oil prices,\u201d which allowed them to recover \u201cquicker than others from the 2022 financial markets debacle,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Mubadala ranked<\/strong><strong>second globally in terms of divestments in 2023<\/strong> with the sale of 55% of Mubadala Health to tech firm G42 for USD 2.4 bn. It also divested some USD 122.7 bn between 2018 and 2022, an amount almost equal to the size of its investments during the same period. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>UAE SWFs \u2764\ufe0f private credit:<\/strong> Mubadala was an \u201caggressive investor in private credit,\u201d Global SWF said, referencing its tie-up with Alpha Dubai to set up a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/alphadhabi.com\/press_release\/alpha-dhabi-and-mubadala-form-partnership-to-co-invest-in-global-credit-opportunities-2\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 2.5 bn JV<\/a> to co-invest in global credit. Adia also ventured into private credit in September, backing a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/centerbridge-teams-up-with-wells-fargo-launch-direct-lending-fund-2023-09-26\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 5 bn fund<\/a> launched by Wells Fargo alongside asset manager Centerbridge and making a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalswf.com\/news\/adia-continues-abu-dhabi-s-global-private-credit-push\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 932 mn investment<\/a> in Australian real estate private credit company Qualitas Diversified Credit Investments (QDCI).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>GCC SWFs have a taste for green investments: <\/strong>The report named this year\u2019s theme \u201cEnergy Transition\u201d as sovereign investors poured a historic sum of USD 25.9 bn, half of which GCC SWFs were responsible for, to support clean energy projects such as renewable energy, battery storage and EVs. The UAE\u2019s launch of the USD 30 bn climate fund <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cop28.com\/en\/news\/2023\/12\/commits-US$30-billion-in-catalytic--capital-to-launch-landmark\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Alterra<\/a> during COP28 to improve access to climate funding for the Global South is one landmark agreement in that respect, the report notes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Looking ahead: All eyes are on Dubai\u2019s new sovereign wealth fund. <\/strong>The \u201cformation of Dubai\u2019s new SWF will send shock waves and we will see plenty of movement of personnel from other SWFs, just like we saw a few years ago with ADQ\u2019s formation,\u201d Global SWF founder Diego L\u00f3pez said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- Dubai announced plans to set up the Dubai Investment Fund, the emirate\u2019s second multi-bn wealth fund<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wam.ae\/article\/aq30u22-mohammed-bin-rashid-issues-law-forming-dubai\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last month<\/a>.
