The founders of Aster, the Moopen family, will retain a 35% stake in the company, ensuring their ongoing management and operation of the GCC business.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The makeup of the consortium:<\/strong> The 65% stake will go to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov.ae\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Emirates Investment Authority<\/a>, Kuwait-based investment company <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aldhowholding.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Dhow Holding Company<\/a>, Saudi\u2019s Hana Investment Company, and Kuwait\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wafrainv.com\/?lang=en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Wafra International Investment Company<\/a>, according to a recent <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asterdmhealthcare.com\/newsroom\/detail\/aster-to-separate-its-india-and-gcc-businesses-to-unlock-value-announces-agreement-for-fajr-capital-led-consortium-to-invest-in-aster-gcc\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why does Aster want to break up?<\/strong> Aster wants to focus more on the Indian market having its independent growth trajectory with its own governance structure and capital allocation strategy; Indian investors will now be able to invest in an Indian-majority business, the press release reads. Aster was previously not able to seize on inorganic growth opportunities in India because of opposing capital investment requirements between the GCC and India, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/asia\/hospital-chain-aster-dm-sells-stake-its-gulf-business-101-bln-2023-11-28\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports citing Aster's Group CEO Alisha Moopen. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What they said:<\/strong> \u201c70% of our business is from the GCC, and the 30% from India, it didn\u2019t make a lot of sense for Indian investors because they have very limited understanding of the GCC business,\u201d Alisha Moopen told Bloomberg in an interview (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/videos\/2023-11-30\/aster-to-sell-gulf-business-for-1-billion-video\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">watch, runtime: 4:40<\/a>). \u201cThe world is moving from globalization to hyper-localization,\u201d Moopen said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What happens after the separation?<\/strong> There will be separate management teams to steer operations in both GCC and Indian entities, each backed by dedicated investor support pushing for growth in their respective markets, the press release reads. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Aster\u2019s expansion plans:<\/strong> Aster wants to expand more in the Saudi market + increase bed capacity in India, aiming to add over 1500 beds by FY27. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Advisors:<\/strong> Moelis & Company and Credit Suisse served as the selling agents.
