A memo to employees from Citi reportedly said to work remotely until further notice, while Goldman Sachs was separately quoted by Bloomberg as saying that \u201cthe decision to evacuate three of our buildings in the UAE was made out of an abundance of caution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Standard Chartered didn\u2019t confirm or deny the news<\/strong>, with its UAE CEO Rola Abu Manneh <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/rola-abu-manneh-872633117_standard-chartered-responds-to-reports-of-activity-7437591049994256384-pi-z?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAADAUJZ8Br23Kv54kDyrvxGUyLkbiQlSEyyw\" style=\"\">saying<\/a> that its \u201cbanking services in the UAE continue without interruption \u2026 [but the firm has] extended work-from-home for many of our teams as a precautionary step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Many in DIFC had just returned to the office this week, after working<\/strong><strong> remotely for the past week. <\/strong>The move for some to evacuate one of the UAE\u2019s two major financial hubs and revert to remote work is a big step backward as the government continues to bang the \u201cwe are safe\u201d drum, presenting a calm facade for both businesses and residents alike \u2014 even down to the change of the jarring safety alert sound that jolts our phones overnight to a softer chime. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Earlier this week,<\/strong><strong> Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan bin <\/strong><strong>Mohammed<\/strong><strong> Al Maktoum <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVtwP6HjRKb\/?igsh=Y2xxZXM1OGlvZG1r&img_index=13\" style=\"\">met with<\/a><\/strong> <strong> 300 business leaders <\/strong>at The Majlis in a bid to discuss business continuity and deliver the same message the government has been sending all along: \u201cThe UAE is strong [...] and we will emerge stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Why this matters <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Tech and finance firms are arguably the lifeblood of Dubai<\/strong>, with dozens of multinational firms having set up their headquarters in the emirate in recent years. US banks and financial services firms, as well as Big Tech firms like those allegedly mentioned by Iran, have significant operations in the UAE and have pledged bns of investments in the country. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>BACKGROUND-<\/strong> Microsoft committed over <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2025\/11\/04\/microsoft-to-invest-nearly-usd-8-bn-in-the-uae-by-2029-in-data-centers-chips\/\" style=\"\">USD 7.9 bn<\/a> in data centers in the UAE last year, while Oracle and Nvidia are working on the massive 5 GW US-UAE AI data center cluster in Abu Dhabi, which had been set to open this year. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">What to watch <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>With the Eid break coming up next week, we don\u2019t expect a mass return<\/strong><strong> to offices anytime soon. <\/strong>Some are taking up their companies\u2019 \u201cwork from abroad\u201d policies, others are leaving in the initial panic-induced exodus, and others are bridging vacations with Eid. As a result, expect the normally packed DIFC and ADGM to remain somewhat bare until after Eid and until the coming weeks show whether there was any truth to Iran\u2019s recent threats.
