Heavyweights including Emirates NBD, Emaar, and Salik hit the temporary 5% downside limit almost immediately after markets opened.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>From the trading desk:<\/strong> The sell-off is not a reflection of shifting fundamentals, but a \u201cpurely sentiment-driven\u201d reaction to regional uncertainty, George Khoury, global head of research at CFI Financial Group, tells EnterpriseAM. He characterized the drop as an \u201cexpected and anticipated\u201d reopening shock where \u201cinvestors react to uncertainty first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The expat liquidity trap:<\/strong> \u201cOutflows were noticed mostly in real estate and financials names, with flows being held mostly in cash,\u201d Khoury said. \u201cIn a country where expats play a major role, any geopolitical tension creates liquidity concerns,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The DFM real estate index was down 4.92% yesterday<\/strong>, while financials shed 4.38%, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/marketwatch.dfm.ae\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">market data<\/a>. All DFM indices were in the red, except for materials, which gained 2.38%. National Cement Company was the only company that made gains (2.38%). <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>On the ADX, only five companies were in the green<\/strong>, while the majority hit the 5% downside circuit breaker, and a few remained flat, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adx.ae\/en\/main-market\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">market data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The counter call: Despite the volatility, Cantor Fitzgerald is urging clients to buy the dip.<\/strong> In a note to clients picked up by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-04\/cantor-bullish-on-emirates-banks-despite-middle-east-conflict?embedded-checkout=true\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>, our friend Kato Mukuru gave seven UAE lenders \u201coverweight\u201d ratings, calling them \u201clow-risk, high-return\u201d investments. Mukuru argues that while regional escalation brings \u201csubstantial near-term risk,\u201d the long-term investment thesis remains anchored by the UAE\u2019s commitment to positioning itself as a \u201chaven\u201d and strong economic fundamentals. Cantor is particularly bullish on Rakbank, First Abu Dhabi Bank, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Does safe-haven status still hold? <\/strong>\u201cThe underlying macro fundamentals and leading company and sector profiles, viewed from a bottom-up perspective, are both resilient, so the current moves are a temporary divergence that might last till the conflict cools down,\u201d Century Financial Chief Investment Officer Vijay Valecha said in a note seen by EnterpriseAM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>BACKGROUND- <\/strong>Dubai\u2019s index rallied to a 2006 high earlier in February, while both the DFM and ADX have been attractive to investors looking for that elusive mix of both stability and emerging-markets flavoured growth. The problem now: Dubai\u2019s equity market is the \u201conly one among the larger GCC ones which has significant foreign ownership,\u201d making it particularly vulnerable and exposed to foreign outflows, Hasnain Malik, an emerging markets equity and geopolitics strategist at research firm Tellimer, told the business information service. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- We <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/04\/capital-outflows-to-be-expected-in-the-near-term-as-war-dents-the-uaes-safe-haven-status-analysts-say\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">reported yesterday<\/a><\/strong><strong> that moderate capital outflows <\/strong><strong>were<\/strong><strong> expected<\/strong>, as Iran\u2019s unprecedented strikes on the UAE spook foreign investors and expats and tarnish the UAE\u2019s well-cultivated \u201csafe haven\u201d image.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">What to watch <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Volatility is likely here to stay<\/strong>, Valecha said. \u201cAny adverse developments would negatively impact the markets, and if the situation stabilizes, dip buyers might return,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Mukuru expects the market to remain weak in the immediate term<\/strong> but says this \u201cshould open up some interesting [windows] for those who believe in the long-term equity story.\u201d Meanwhile, Khoury argues that the week ahead will be \u201crange-bound with limited upside,\u201d as the market waits to see if regional tensions escalate or stabilize.
