More <\/strong>gas power incoming:<\/strong> The 2.4 GW Fujairah F3 combined cycle gas turbine \u2014 one of the largest in the UAE \u2014 has begun commercial operations, according to a statement<\/a>. The project, which involved Marubeni Corporation, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa), Mubadala Investment Company and Hokuriku Electric Power Company, is capable of powering some 380k homes. <\/p>\n

are among the project\u2019s backers, with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec) as the sole offtaker under a long-term power purchase agreement. <\/p>\n

Who owns what:<\/strong> Taqa holds 40% of the project company \u2014 Fujairah Power Company F3 \u2014 while Marubeni holds 20.4%, Mubadala owns 20%, and Hokuriku Electric owns 19.6%. The project reached financial close back in 2020, at an estimated cost of <\/span>AED 4.2 bn<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taqa and Ewec have more in the works: <\/strong>Taqa inked a 24-year power purchase agreement back in April<\/a> with Ewec that will allow it to build, own, and operate a 1 GW open-cycle gas turbine in Al Dhafra. <\/p>\n

Abu Dhabi could also see a lot more gas turbines: <\/strong>Ewec sees an urgent need for an additional 5.1 GW of gas capacity in Abu Dhabi to support renewable integration and manage peaks \u2014 including 2.5 GW of combined-cycle gas turbines due by 2028 and 2.6 GW of opec-cycle capacity expected online by 2027, the National<\/a> reports. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
