Khazna<\/strong> + Eni join forces in Italy:<\/strong> Dubai-based Khazna Data Centers signed a head of terms agreement with Italian energy firm Eni to establish a joint venture to develop data centers in Italy, according to a press<\/a>release (pdf)<\/a>. The ownership structure of the tie-up wasn\u2019t disclosed.<\/p>\n

The details: <\/strong>Plans will initially include a 500 MW AI data center campus in Italy\u2019s Lombardy region. The Milan AI Data Center Campus will be powered by Eni\u2019s \u201cblue power\u201d low-carbon electricity source and will be generated from a combined cycle gas turbine power plant. This marks the first time low-carbon power is being used to power up hyperscale data infrastructure in Italy, according to the press release.<\/p>\n

The first step, but not the last: <\/strong>The campus will be the first step in a wider project, with the JV aiming to establish up to 1 GW of IT capacity in Italy as part of a wider bilateral agreement signed between Italy and the UAE in February<\/a>. <\/p>\n

This is the latest in Khazna\u2019s overseas AI activity<\/strong>, with the firm making moves into Turkey<\/a>, Saudi Arabia<\/a>, and Egypt<\/a>, while also partnering with international heavyweights including Nvidia<\/a> to build data centers in the region. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
