\u2600\ufe0f<\/strong>WEATHER- <\/strong>Are you feeling the humidity? Us too. <\/strong>Summer arrived early this year with intense humidity, heat, and blowing dust, but today might see temperatures cool down slightly. The mercury peaks at 36\u00b0C in Dubai today before cooling to 25\u00b0C overnight, while in Abu Dhabi, temperatures will hit a high of 29\u00b0C before cooling to 25\u00b0C. <\/p>\n

WATCH THIS SPACE- <\/p>\n

<\/a> #1- Demand for cargo and air freight services has yet to weaken despite the recently <\/strong>imposed tariffs<\/strong>, VP at Emirates SkyCargo Badr Abbas said during a press conference at the World Cargo Symposium in Dubai, Khaleej Times<\/a> reports. While industry players maintained that it\u2019s too early to determine the full potential impact of tariffs on the industry, the general sentiment is that the industry will need to adapt and to build \u201csystems that can withstand future shocks, whether geopolitical, economic or environmental,\u201d Abbas explained. <\/p>\n

Homegro<\/strong>wn aviation services provider <\/strong>dnata<\/strong> also indicated that the situation for ground handling remains unchanged so f<\/strong>ar \u2014 although some trade flow shifts are expected \u2014 stressing that they plan to monitor the situation and adapt accordingly, said CEO Clive Sauve-Hopkins.<\/p>\n

The general sentiment is positive:<\/strong> It\u2019s still \u201cfar too early to predict\u201d the impact of tariffs, director-general at IATA Willie Walsh said, stressing his confidence that the industry will continue to maintain a strong front through the crisis.<\/p>\n

Fear not\u2026?<\/strong> The UAE\u2019s growing trade activity and rise in trade agreements and partnerships is set to minimize the fallout from the tariffs<\/a>, Emirates NBD Research said in a research note recently. <\/p>\n

Yes, but:<\/strong> The UAE \u2014 like others in the Gulf region \u2014 will face indirect risks from a potential tariff-triggered global recession or stagflation could reduce expat inflows, foreign investment, and consumption, Frontier View said in a note. S&P also warned<\/a> that US tariffs could dampen growth, investment, and market sentiment, while rising borrowing costs and tighter access to funding may affect exposed sectors.<\/p>\n

<\/a> #2- <\/strong>Jaywan<\/strong> to launch credit card: <\/strong>Al Etihad Payment<\/a> \u2019s new domestic payment platform Jaywan will introduce a credit card option following the rollout of its debit card service, CEO Jan Pilbauer told Gulf News<\/a>. The firm is in the final stages of determining the card\u2019s scope, he said, adding that the necessary payment infrastructure needs to be in place before the credit cards are approved.<\/p>\n

ICYMI- <\/strong>Al Etihad had previously partnered with Discover<\/a>, Visa<\/a>, Mastercard<\/a>, and UnionPay<\/a> to introduce co-badged debit and prepaid cards which are currently being rolled out in phases.<\/p>\n

<\/a> #3- <\/strong>The <\/strong>UAE\u2019s<\/strong> Global Cybersecurity Center of Excellence<\/a><\/strong> in Abu Dhabi is expected to <\/strong>attract USD 1.4 bn in foreign investment <\/strong>by boosting cybersecurity capabilities, state new agency Wam<\/a> reports. The new center will serve as the regional headquarters of Google\u2019s first cybersecurity academy in the Middle East, and will offer certification programs and specialized cybersecurity training. The center is expected to generate 20.3k jobs.<\/p>\n

ICYMI- <\/strong>The UAE is teaming up with Google Cloud to establish the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in partnership with Mandiant, part of Google Cloud, to offer hands-on training using real-world cyberattack simulations. Google Cloud will also launch a three-month accelerator program for 25 startups from Abu Dhabi\u2019s Hub71, offering them access to up to USD 300k in Google Cloud credits.<\/p>\n

HAPPENING TODAY-<\/p>\n

#1- It\u2019s the final day of the <\/strong>IPS Congress<\/a><\/strong> at the Dubai World Trade Center<\/strong>. The event brings together international delegates and stakeholders from the global real estate and investment scene to showcase projects, engage in discussions, and network. This year\u2019s edition will also cover the future of urban planning, design, and technology through IPS Future Cities, IPS Design, IPS Services, and IPS PropTech Startups.<\/p>\n

#2- <\/strong>The Abu Dhabi Global Health Week<\/a><\/strong> is underway and will continue until Thursday <\/strong>at the Adnec Center in Abu Dhabi. The event will gather global and regional stakeholders to promote collaboration and investment in healthcare solutions. Key topics include health longevity, health system resilience, healthtech and AI, and life sciences.<\/p>\n

#3- The <\/strong>Dubai Wood Show<\/a><\/strong> is also on its final day<\/strong> at the Dubai World Trade Center. The three-day event will welcome more than 680 international exhibitors from 132 countries, showcasing the latest trends and technologies in the global wood and woodworking machinery sector.<\/p>\n

#4- The <\/strong>Solana Economic Zone<\/a><\/strong> is happening in<\/strong> Dubai<\/strong>. The two-week event will run until Saturday, 26 April and focus on blockchain innovation, providing a platform for founders, builders, and investors looking to set up crypto and blockchain businesses in Dubai.<\/p>\n

#5- <\/strong>Al Shifaa Summit for Integrative Medicine<\/a><\/strong> is on its second day and will wrap up on <\/strong>Thursday<\/strong> as part of Abu Dhabi Global Health Week. The event gathers policymakers, healthcare leaders, researchers, and practitioners for discussions, knowledge exchange booths, and exhibitions focusing on medical regulation, research, education, and patient access.<\/p>\n

#6- <\/strong>The FastBull Finance Summit<\/a><\/strong> will take place today and on Thursda<\/strong>y<\/strong> at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai. The event will cover global finance, the foreign exchange market, and blockchain financial technology, with economist Jim Rogers set to deliver a keynote speech.<\/p>\n

#7- The <\/strong>Abu Dhabi Sustainable Business Leadership Forum<\/a><\/strong> is happening today <\/strong>and on <\/strong>Thursday<\/strong>at the Four Seasons Hotel in Abu Dhabi. This year\u2019s edition, under the theme Collaboration for Impact: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Business Practices, will bring together global leaders in sustainability, technology, and business for panel discussions and workshops on using AI in sustainable supply chains, waste reduction, and energy efficiency.<\/p>\n

#8- A summit on the role of Designated Non-Financial Business<\/strong>es and Professions <\/strong>(DNFBPs) in <\/strong>combating financial crimes<\/a><\/strong> is being held today and tomorrow in Dubai.<\/strong> Organised by the Economy Ministry and the Executive Office for Control and Non-Proliferation, the event will focus on raising awareness about customer due diligence, verification procedures, and the sector's role in preventing terrorism financing and arms proliferation.<\/p>\n

#9- The <\/strong>IATA World Cargo Symposium<\/a><\/strong> is on its second day today <\/strong>and will run through to tomorrow in Dubai. The event will host sessions, specialized streams, workshops, and summits related to technology, security, customs, cargo operations, and sustainability for over 1.4k industry leaders.<\/p>\n

HAPPENING THIS WEEK-<\/p>\n

Commvault\u2019s Shift Roadshow<\/a><\/strong> event will take place tomorrow<\/strong> at Dubai\u2019s Museum of The Future, gathering cyber-resilience leaders, IT experts, and C-suite executives to discuss how businesses can safeguard against the growing threat of AI-driven cyber attacks. Attendees can expect keynote sessions, expert panels and insights from industry giants like Microsoft, AWS, and IDC.<\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/p>\n

No end in sight to the ongoing trade war:<\/strong> US President Donald Trump has floated yet more tariffs, this time on the critical minerals supply chain, for which he ordered a probe that could lead to the introduction of tariffs down the line. <\/p>\n

The goal? To reduce imports of critical minerals \u2014 particularly from China<\/strong>, which dominates the industry \u2014 and boost local production for a sector that has big implications on defense capabilities, infrastructure development, and tech ambitions. <\/p>\n

The good news is:<\/strong> Tariffs on critical minerals would be separate from country-specific tariffs, which could ultimately mean\u2026. lower tariffs. (Financial Times<\/a> | Bloomberg<\/a> | Reuters<\/a>) <\/p>\n
