What we\u2019re looking for\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The Enterprise Company \u2014 publisher of EnterpriseAM<\/strong>, the business daily for the Arab world \u2014 is looking for a lead reporter-editor to take charge of our AI and technology coverage<\/strong>. You\u2019ll work hand-in-hand with our founding editor to get it off the ground and then run the franchise going forward as a member of our senior newsroom team. You\u2019ll need to be comfortable reporting and writing stories with voice and nuance across the Arab world \u2014 and leading a team that includes another full-time reporter (you\u2019ll be hiring) while managing other reporters from across our >60-person newsroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we\u2019re looking for <\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll own AI + Tech coverage across our MENA+ flagship newsletter and national editions, among other products. We\u2019re looking for someone who has a voice and a point of view \u2014 but who believes in strong opinions, loosely held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Arab world is rich with AI and tech stories: From USD 93 bn in data centre buildouts in the medium term and Gulf sovereigns as big investors in global AI, tech, and gaming players \u2014 to how AI (in particular) is playing out in businesses across MENA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re looking for people who want to tell stories that matter to an audience of decision makers across the Arab world \u2014 as well as investors and execs outside looking for in. There are tech-trade titles writing for CIOs and procurement bots \u2014 and there are press-release factories \u2014 but we don\u2019t think anyone has gotten the AI and tech story right from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh to Cairo and Rabat..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The product\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Source news from a broad range of English- and Arabic-language sources including web, television and print media<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Prepare and pitch a list of stories to submit to the Managing Editor and Verticals Editor for review<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Write the allocated English-language summaries, analysis, and long-form investigative pieces<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Convert Arabic news accurately into interesting and concise English stories<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Write original news and analysis pieces based on data, research and in-person interviews with sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Investigating leads generated by the writer themselves or the stringer teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Develop and maintain sources and contacts<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Attend conferences and events for news and networking purposes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • Accuracy of content, i.e. number of factual\/linguistic errors<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Speed in writing stories and completing tasks assigned by the Managing Editor or Verticals Editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Adherence to Enterprise tone\/voice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to select and recognize Enterprise stories and worthy content to bring up<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • General business\/economic\/political\/legal knowledge<\/li>\n\n\n\n

      Qualifications <\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

      • Bachelor\u2019s degree preferably in journalism, business, economics, finance, political science<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Ability to write flawless English<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Strong writing and storytelling skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Strong command of the Arabic language<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Strong analytical skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Ability to systematically proofread documents<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Ability to investigate news stories through leads, research and contacts<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Strong understanding of business, economics and politics<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Knowledge of finance basics (preferable but not a deal breaker)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Open-minded and accepting of a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Attention to detail<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Ability to work independently<\/li>\n\n\n\n
