We have everything on the events of the past weekend in this morning\u2019s War Watch, below. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Bright spots remain<\/strong>, from a slight opening up of the Strait of Hormuz to a ramping up of operational capacity among UAE carriers, but there\u2019s also bad news on the macro front. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The non-oil sector was hit hard by the war last month<\/strong>, with S&P Global\u2019s Purchasing Managers\u2019 Index falling to a near five-year low, with indications of rising prices, major supply chain disruptions, and falling demand. We have more in our Big Story Today, below. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>On a brighter note\u2026 Moody\u2019s stood firm on its credit rating for the UAE, while maintaining a stable outlook<\/strong>, though it still warned of a major downside risk if the war sees further escalation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WEATHER- It\u2019s a warm day across the country<\/strong>, with highs of 29-30\u00b0C in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and a low of 22\u00b0C, according to our favorite weather app. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Watch this space<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a> <strong>DISRUPTION<\/strong><strong> WATCH \u2014 <\/strong><strong>Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) said it could take up to a year to restore full production at the Al Taweelah facility<\/strong>, after severe damage caused by Iranian strikes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/30\/attacks-hit-industry-threatening-higher-commodity-prices-and-investor-caution\/\" style=\"\">last week<\/a>, state news agency <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wam.ae\/en\/article\/bzj40l4-emirates-global-aluminium-provides-initial\" style=\"\">Wam<\/a> reports. The site remains under emergency shutdown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Aluminum prices rose 5%<\/strong> after the attacks on EGA and the Aluminum Bahrain complex in Bahrain, and prices could rise as high as USD 4k per ton in a worst-case scenario, analysts <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/31\/aluminum-market-reels-after-strikes-on-ega-and-alba\/\" style=\"\">told us<\/a> earlier. Manufacturing industries \u2014 including auto, aerospace, construction, and packaging \u2014 are poised to face the biggest supply chain bottlenecks. Since the onset of the war, global aluminum prices <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/commodity\/aluminum\" style=\"\">rose over 10%<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <strong>DEBT<\/strong><strong> \u2014 <\/strong><strong>Pakistan will return USD 3.5 bn in matured loan deposits to the UAE<\/strong>, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2600892\/pakistan-to-repay-35b-uae-debt-this-month\" style=\"\">Express Tribune<\/a> reports, citing unnamed senior government officials. The country\u2019s Foreign Ministry said the debt repayment was \u201ca routine financial transaction\u201d that will be repaid through the State Bank of Pakistan, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ForeignOfficePk\/status\/2040450933449249202?s=20\" style=\"\">statement on X<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>IN CONTEXT- <\/strong>The UAE had agreed earlier this year <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/02\/04\/this-morning-emirates-nbds-60-rbl-takeover-needs-fresh-approval-the-dubai-loop-will-be-bigger-than-we-thought\/\" style=\"\">to roll over a USD 2 bn deposit<\/a> until 17 April, after offering multiple rollovers in previous years. The repayment terms were not disclosed, but the purpose of the roll over was to negotiate the repayment period and interest rate. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>How much has the UAE deposited in Pakistan? <\/strong>The UAE had also extended a USD 450 mn loan to Pakistan in 1996 which matured in 30 years, the Express Tribune quotes a senior government official as saying. Another USD 1 bn deposit was made in 2023 to help Pakistan meet funding requirements for an IMF bailout. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>INVESTMENT WATCH \u2014 Gulf investors backing Paramount\u2019s Warner Bros\u2019 takeover are expected <\/strong><strong>to put pen to paper as soon as today<\/strong>, people familiar with the matter told the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/deals\/three-gulf-funds-agree-to-back-paramounts-81-billion-takeover-of-warner-04eda364\" style=\"\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>. The UAE contributed 3.3% of total exported goods globally and 2% of services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>IN CONTEXT- <\/strong>A big part of the credit goes to the UAE\u2019s comprehensive economic partnership agreements (CEPAs), the most recent being with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/03\/uae-ecuador-seal-cepa-agreement-with-usd-3-bn-project-pipeline-in-sight\/\" style=\"\">Ecuador in March<\/a>, with a USD 3 bn project pipeline, and another is currently in the works with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/06\/uae-japan-finish-cepa-negotiations-discuss-energy-supplies-in-light-of-disruptions\/\" style=\"\">Japan<\/a>. The country also secured a CEPA with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/02\/09\/uae-expands-global-trade-network-with-gabon-cepa\/\" style=\"\">Gabon<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wam.ae\/en\/article\/byje0mb-uae-democratic-republic-congo-strengthen-economic\" style=\"\">Congo<\/a> in February, as well as a services and investment accord with Armenia to widen market access and boost bilateral capital flows. Growth in both output and new business softened, with Dubai-based companies expressing their lowest level of confidence in future output since late 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Supply chain snarls are also to blame <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Besides the hit to demand, firms reported that the war constrained output<\/strong>, as it disrupted both supply chain routes and end-market demand, though many still noted resilient order books and ongoing project work, which kept the PMI above the expansion threshold. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The suppliers\u2019 delivery times index recorded its largest monthly fall<\/strong> since the series began a decade\u2011and\u2011a\u2011half ago, while vendor performance deteriorated for the first time since September 2021. The disruption of key supply routes, including reported bottlenecks around the Strait of Hormuz, has translated into significantly longer wait times for critical inputs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Brace for higher prices\u2026 <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>In a bid to protect margins, UAE firms hiked average selling prices at the fastest pace in around 11.5 years<\/strong>, as input price pressures accelerated in March, with the war pushing up costs for logistics, ins., fuel, energy, steel, technology equipment, and machinery. The rate of increase in purchase prices was the fastest since July 2024, prompting many firms to pass on costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">The outlook is\u2026 not so rosy <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Firms\u2019 expectations for activity over t<\/strong><strong>he next 12 months fell to a 61\u2011month low<\/strong> amid deep uncertainty over the war\u2019s depth and duration. However, Owen noted that firms \u201ctook comfort from strong long-term growth projections, high demand in tech and other sectors, and fiscal spending plans including Abu Dhabi\u2019s Economic Vision 2030.\u201d A sharp increase in backlogs also suggests a sales pipeline exists if new orders taper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The bottom line: <\/strong>The outlook hinges entirely on regional stability. \u201cThe more the war continues,
