The proposed site will reportedly be a \u201cgigafab\u201d \u2014 a complex of six factories \u2014 but it\u2019s unlikely that TSMC would break ground on the complex for \u201cseveral years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Behind the scenes:<\/strong> TSMC \u2014 a big player in the semiconductor supply chain providing for the likes of Nvidia \u2014 has reportedly held multiple meetings with the US\u2019 Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Abu Dhabi AI fund MGX in recent months, as any facility would require US administration approval. Talks were shelved under the previous administration following US security concerns. They have since resumed under Trump amid growing UAE-US AI ties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI-<\/strong> Last September, TSMC and Samsung were both reportedly exploring UAE chip facilities last year, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/20f6975e-d5e3-4ce2-85f7-1f91886d045b\/this-morning:-chip-giants-to-set-up-manufacturing-operations-in-the-uae%3F-%2B-masdar-closer-to-acquiring-saeta-yield\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">holding early talks with UAE officials<\/a>. Mubadala was said to be in talks to fund the projects, which faced hurdles from water scarcity to managing geopolitical sensitivities, especially with Washington and Beijing. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had also reportedly <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/0264addb-0ed9-4d3e-bdd6-3452dc45784a\/response-plus-medical-acquires-uk-based-prometheus-medical-%2B-japan-kyoto-trade-exhibition-begins-today\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">met with UAE figures<\/a>, including Sheikh Tahnoon, to explore launching a chip venture for his firm in partnership with TSMC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <strong>#3- Emirates plans to continue operating its fleet of more than 100 Airbus A380s until the end<\/strong><strong> of the next decade<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-06-01\/emirates-will-keep-a380-jumbo-flying-until-end-of-next-decade\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> quotes the president of the country\u2019s flagship carrier Tim Clark as telling journalists. The carrier will introduce another round of first-class cabin upgrades as part of a USD multi-bn refresh as it waits on the delivery of aircraft to replace the A380, which carries with it high operational costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>Emirates <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/029177cc-3c7c-423d-987c-7cfe37d5ffb1\/this-morning:-omniyat-taps-banks-for-debut-green-sukuk-%2B-uae-qatar-road-link-coming%3F\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">began receiving Airbus A350s<\/a> earlier this year, with up to 15 more set to arrive this summer. Within the bank\u2019s retail banking group, SMEs currently<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">account for a significant part of revenues and profits, Chalisgaonkar said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The bank is piloting several SME-focused initiatives to reach that target,<\/strong> <strong>including introducing unsecured lending, soft tokens, and more trade financing products<\/strong> on its new SME-focused business banking app, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/bc0c4fd2-6eb2-405f-9062-5198fb4e8593\/mashreq-launches%253cmark%253e-mashreq-biz%253c%2Fmark%253e,-an-sme-focused-online-banking-platform\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Mashreq Biz<\/a>. The app has already become the top-rated business banking app in the UAE, averaging a 4.9 rating across both iOS and Android app stores since its launch in February, Chalisgaonkar told us. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Mashreq Biz is also key to Mashreq\u2019s plans to secure more clients and retain existing ones. <\/strong>Among the metrics they use to measure success? The number of calls to their contact center, which on average take around 6.5 minutes. \u201cThat number used to be 400 per 1k customers \u2014 it is now down to 309,\u201d Chalisgonkar said. That means a reduction of around 25% since the launch of the app. The goal is to take that number down further to 180, he added. Other transactions like fund transfers are also taking less time than before, down from 10-15 minutes to half a minute, he added. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Soft tokens, set to be rolled out by the end of this quarter, will replace one-time passwords (OTPs)<\/strong>, which are a lot less reliable, especially if a client is traveling which can impact deliverability, Chalisgonkar explained. Instead, soft tokens \u2014 like digital certificates planted on your device \u2014 will be reliable so long as you have your phone on you. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The bank also plans to introduce three or four more trade finance products to the app<\/strong>, Chalisgonkar said. Currently, SME clients can request letters of credit or letters of guarantee directly through the app, but clients want more. \u201cDubai is a massive trade hub,\u201d he said. \u201cAlmost every company here is doing something internationally\u2026 it\u2019s a heavily externalized economy, which means that the biggest demand is for simple and easy cross-border transaction products,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>There\u2019s also increased demand for more flexible working capital. <\/strong>\u201cWe recognize that, especially in segments like NeoBiz, there are lots of companies that were set up two or three years back, and they\u2019re getting to a stage where they are growing fast and need working capital, but don't necessarily have any kind of property or other assets to offer,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The bank plans to introduce unsecured lending for small tickets in the lower single-digit mns<\/strong>, with an eye to pilot the new initiative in the next two months and launch it later this year, Chalisgaonkar said. The goal is to allow SMEs to receive approval for their financing in less than a day. \u201cOpen banking will play a role because that will allow us to get all that data digitally, like VAT statements and corporate tax data, for example,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This is not the only way Mashreq is helping SMEs secure working capital faster<\/strong> \u2014 the lender recently <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/a8a684c4-d7b7-4340-ac5b-278d6a1e1840\/mashreq-and-neopay-offer-pos-lending-to-sme-merchants\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">partnered with NeoPay<\/a> \u2014 and Network International before that \u2014 to introduce PoS lending tailored to merchants in the UAE. Lending can go up to AED 4 mn per transaction, and the facility is approved solely based on PoS sales data, with in-principle approval taking 15 minutes, Chalisgaonkar said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>How much can PoS data tell you?
