Tehran <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/araghchi\/status\/2041655156215799821?s=20\" style=\"\">responded by saying<\/a> it would halt its attacks across the Gulf if the US and Israel stop their attacks. The Islamic Republic also said it would open the Strait of Hormuz, allowing vessels to transit the waterway in coordination with Iranian armed forces. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The ceasefire \u201cdoes not include Lebanon<\/strong>,\u201d Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IsraeliPM\/status\/2041714156114456660?s=20\" style=\"\">said<\/a> after the agreement was announced. That statement comes as Israel expands its evacuation orders in Lebanon, issuing directives for about 40 villages in the south to evacuate earlier on Catholic Easter Monday, including in Christian-majority areas that were largely spared from earlier displacement directives. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What happens next?<\/strong> The two sides will meet on Friday to \u201cfurther negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes,\u201d Pakistan\u2019s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CMShehbaz\/status\/2041665043423752651?s=20\" style=\"\">said<\/a>. Qatar and Kuwait also reported a fresh round of missile attacks, while Saudi Arabia issued a security alert to residents. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Market reax: <\/strong>Oil dipped <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-07\/latest-oil-market-news-and-analysis-for-april-8?srnd=homepage-middle-east\" style=\"\">below USD 100 \/ bbl<\/a> following the news, with Brent dropping as much as 16% to below USD 92 earlier today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Indian stock markets cheer <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 \u2014 India\u2019s benchmark indices \u2014 rallied following the ceasefire announcement. <\/strong>Sensex jumped 3.8% while Nifty surged 3.6% after recording losses for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/mena-india\/am-edition\/\" style=\"\">six consecutive weeks<\/a>. The surge was more pronounced in the stocks of companies with significant exposure to the MENA region, including InterGlobe Aviation (+10%), parent company of India\u2019s largest domestic carrier IndiGo; construction major Larsen & Toubro (+7.9%), which earns 40% of its revenue from the region; and Adani Ports (+5%), a major stakeholder in Israel\u2019s Haifa port. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Macro pressure will ease if ceasefire holds <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Opening the Strait of Hormuz and a decline in crude oil prices would ease macroeconomic pressures on India.<\/strong> While eight India-flagged vessels crossed the strait following intense high-level diplomatic talks between Tehran and New Delhi, the arrangement was barely sustainable for the country.
