While the government was gradually rolling back the scheme before the war\u2014slashing incentives by 50% in the national budget for the current fiscal year\u2014a heavy drop in exports has prompted the finance and commerce ministries to evaluate increase to incentive rates, an expansion of overall funding, and a five-year extension to the scheme's run time. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters:<\/strong> The move follows mounting stress on exporters facing elevated logistics costs and disruptions to Gulf shipping routes. India\u2019s merchandise <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/mena-india\/2026\/04\/17\/indias-middle-east-trade-drops-50-in-march-as-iran-war-bites\/\" style=\"\">exports fell 7.4% y-o-y in March<\/a>, with shipments to key markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia declining sharply amid the conflict. With half of global sulfur supply originating in the Gulf, India's dependency here is highly concentrated. Benchmark sulfur prices are now at decade-highs, further squeezing downstream fertilizer margins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Enough suppliers, elevated pricing: <\/strong>The companies offered nearly 2.3 mn tonnes\u2014double the required volume\u2014indicating supplies are adequate. India imports nearly 60% of its phosphate needs and already expects its fertilizer subsidy bill <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/mena-india\/2026\/04\/29\/this-afternoon-fertilizer-subsidy-bill-in-india-is-set-to-rise-20\/\" style=\"\">to jump by around 20%<\/a> this fiscal year. As more government entities and organizations in critical sectors like healthcare and finance adopt Zoho for enterprise modernization, data localization has become essential to deliver high standards of privacy and security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Data localization <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The expansion is part of Zoho\u2019s local-first approach across the Gulf, linked to its broader transnational localism strategy.<\/strong> \u201cAs the company has expanded its enterprise footprint, it has prioritised being closer to customers, both geographically and in terms of compliance, cultural alignment, and operational trust,\u201d Nizam notes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters: <\/strong>Government and semi-government clients in the Gulf are placing stricter requirements on data protection, sovereignty and regulatory compliance, especially for sensitive data. \u201cThis makes data localisation essential for us as we continue delivering the highest standards of privacy and security,\u201d Nizam said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Data residency is becoming a dealbreaker<\/strong> for organizations handling sensitive information, particularly as AI integrates further into daily workflows. There is a clear expectation that data in industries like banking, healthcare, and financial services must remain within national borders and be handled in accordance with local laws. Historically, Indian diaspora based in the GCC were the bedrock of the Indian luxury and secondary residential markets.
