Paraxylene feedstock, the main PTA input, will be sourced by OQ by supplying paraxylene, while Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) and Acetic Acid will be imported through Sohar and moved via a dedicated pipeline network routed through Advario\u2019s bulk-liquid storage at the port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Why it matters?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Europe\u2019s cost base is the push factor.<\/strong> The complex is set in Sohar as a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icis.com\/explore\/resources\/news\/2026\/01\/28\/11175384\/mak-germany-to-relocate-rotterdam-pta-pet-assets-to-oman\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">relocation<\/a> of assets acquired by MAK Germany from Indorama Ventures Rotterdam PTA\/PET site that shut in 2024 amid high costs. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The complex is mainly targeting the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe, but Europe <\/strong><strong>matters here because it\u2019s a huge net-importer of PET<\/strong>. The continent\u2019s utilization of PET in 2022 reached 5 mn tons, with PET production of just 3.9 mn tons \u2014 and this is well before the shutdown of the Rotterdam site. That shows a downward trend compared to 2021, when PET production was 4.2 mn tons, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2026\/1\/1181.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">The benchmark<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>China is the world\u2019s biggest producer of PTA and PET<\/strong>, and its PTA capacity now exceeds 90 mn tons, with the Omani project representing just 1.6% of that volume.
