The trend \u2014 in the making well before Israel\u2019s genocide in Gaza triggered global shipping disruptions \u2014 saw ports increasingly linking their berths directly to industrial processing and customs-bonded manufacturing and logistics areas. This retrospective review looks at how Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE recalibrated their maritime strategy to hedge against global volatility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>From disruption to sovereign control:<\/strong> The transition from 2024\u2019s volume shocks to 2025\u2019s recovery was most visible in Saudi Arabia. By creating a regional liner that bypasses the reliance on global mainliners still diverting around the Cape of Good Hope, Saudi Arabia added a layer of insulation protecting its trade lanes. This was further bolstered by Mawani adding new loops, such as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MawaniKSA\/status\/1998774594950275515\/photo\/1\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">partnership<\/a> with Global Feeder Shipping to link Jeddah to Shanghai, Sokhna, and Aqaba.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Over in the UAE, ports did not just sustain their volumes <\/strong>\u2014 they even expanded thanks to 2025\u2019s tariffs bonanza. With a mature industrial and logistics infrastructure integrated into ports, the UAE <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.logisticsmiddleeast.com\/analysis\/2025s-tariff-me-export#:~:text=Preferential%20trade%20arrangements%20are%20a,nearly%20doubled%20in%20recent%20years.\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">provided a neutral area<\/a> for producers in locations that are under tariff scrutiny. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This meant that UAE shippers also had a good year.<\/strong> For example, AD Ports Group\u2019s maritime and shipping segment saw its top line jump <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2025\/11\/1125.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">30% y-o-y<\/a> in the first 9M of 2025 on the back of a 40% y-o-y surge in container volumes during the same period. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A CONTRARIAN VIEW \u2014 Egypt perhaps provided the year\u2019s clearest evidence that <\/strong><strong>industrial integration can buffer against maritime disruption <\/strong>despite the major headwinds that hit the Suez Canal\u2019s traditional toll revenue since 2024 (despite improvements in 2025). The Suez Canal Economic Zone \u2014 which oversees broader logistics projects on the Gulf of Suez and Suez Canal \u2014 saw its revenues hit a record <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynewsegypt.com\/2025\/09\/15\/egypts-sczone-reports-record-egp-11-6bn-in-revenue-for-fy-2024-25\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">EGP 11.6 bn<\/a> for the 2024-25 fiscal year, a 36% increase y-o-y, despite the significant dip in canal transit fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Other Egypt-based ports played up their efficiency edge:<\/strong> Port Said Port leveraged the low-volume trend of Suez Canal transits to up its efficiency game, jumping 13 spots from last year to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/fd123188-333e-45b3-a692-2f48453bc3b9\/egyptian-ports-top-the-global-performance-leaderboard-in-fy-2024\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">rank<\/a> third globally and first in the region in the World Bank\u2019s container ports index.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">What to look for in 2026?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Watch out for the anticipated launch of Iraq\u2019s Grand Faw Port<\/strong>. Iraq is hoping the port will be key piece to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/b6eab5f9-a855-4c57-bccc-a8b723736b7f\/turkey-details-its-usd-20-bn-investment-in-the-development-road-project\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 17 bn Iraq Development Road<\/a>, a 1.2k intermodal network linking the Gulf to Turkey \u2014 which ultimately may become as a direct competitor to the Suez Canal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The northern Arabian Gulf will also get a mega port, <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/6afb0015-9a18-4882-9fb7-5521c7179d2a\/kuwait%25e2%2580%2599s-mubarak-al-kabeer:-the-end-of-the-lost-decade%3F\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Kuwait\u2019s Mubarak Al Kabeer<\/a><\/strong><strong>, by late <\/strong><strong>2026. <\/strong>The port \u2014 also developed by Chinese partners \u2014 is expected to be a
