Khazna plans 200 MW of data center capacity in KSA:<\/strong> G42-owned Khazna Data Centers has acquired 225k sqm of land in Dammam in Saudi Arabia to develop up to 200 MW of AI-ready data center capacity, according to a statement<\/a>. The company has been looking to capture at least 25% of Saudi\u2019s data center market<\/a>, and had previously scouted several pieces of land where it sees a lack of capacity that would accommodate US hyperscalers. <\/p>\n

Khazna also appointed a new country <\/strong>head<\/strong> for its Saudi division, Mohammed bin Hassan (LinkedIn<\/a>), according to a statement<\/a>. Bin Hassan previously served as PIF\u2019s chief digital officer and helped launch its initial digital strategy map and worked toward Vision 2030.<\/p>\n

More to come? <\/strong>The company said it plans to introduce 400 MW of new data center capacity to its key markets in Saudi Arabia and Italy, among others. In Italy, it is set to develop a 500 MW data center with Eni<\/a>. It is also making forays into Egypt<\/a> and Turkey<\/a>. The target is part of a wider plan to expand its overall operational capacity by more than 1 GW by 2030.<\/p>\n

REMEMBER-<\/strong> The firm had picked two areas for expansion<\/a> in Saudi where it thinks local firms don\u2019t have the capacity required by the increasing number of US hyperscalers \u2014 large cloud service and data center providers \u2014 that are looking to the Gulf\u2019s cheap energy and real estate for expansion.<\/p>\n

DATA POINT-<\/strong> Khazna controls about 71% of the UAE\u2019s existing data center capacity, and, in addition to European expansion plans, its 12 data centers under construction include sites in Turkey and Kenya. The firm operates some 30 live data centers and maintains a portfolio of almost 650 MW in energy efficiency capacity at present. The firm also plans to deliver over 1 GW of additional AI-ready capacity across the UAE, KSA, and Italy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
