Turkey\u2019s <\/strong>Karpower snaps up US shipyard:<\/strong> Karpower Valley \u2014 a subsidiary of floating power plant operator Karpowership<\/a> \u2014 has acquired the US-based AmFels Yard shipbuilding facility from Singapore\u2019s Seatrium<\/a>, according to a statement (pdf)<\/a>. The transaction \u2014 valued at SGD 65 mn (c. USD 50.6 mn) \u2014 is between Karpower Valley and the Singaporean firm\u2019s affiliate, Seatrium AmFels, marking the Turkish player\u2019s first such facility in the US, Reuters<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

On the shipyard: <\/strong>The AmFels Yard is located in Texas\u2019 Port of Brownsville on the Gulf of Mexico. It constructs offshore oil and gas platforms and manufactures vessels to support the energy sector. Last week, the facility delivered a USD 750 mn offshore wind turbine installation vessel \u2014 the first US-built ship of its kind, according to the newswire. Seatrium has said it will finalize all ongoing projects at the AmFels Yard by the end of 2025 to ensure a seamless transition for customers and partners.<\/p>\n

Karpowership + Seatrium have a history: <\/strong>Last month, Seatrium announced it will outfit four of Karpowership\u2019s vessels in a Singapore-based shipyard and carry out integrating them. It will also convert three older LNG carriers into FSRUs, as per a statement (pdf)<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Karpowership\u2019s latest moves in the region: <\/strong>Karpowership subsidiary BKPS plugged in<\/a> its 300 MW powership \u2014 docked at Khor Al Zubair Port \u2014 into the Iraqi power grid last week, and a second ship \u2014 with a 290 MW capacity \u2014 is expected to dock at Umm Qasr Port. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
