Both ports are located in the Karachi area and overlook the Arabian Sea. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A long-time coming:<\/strong> DP World inked a term sheet with Pakistan\u2019s Special investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for the development of the freight corridor <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/73773bfe-8d5c-48f8-9e8b-d807a1227a65\/dp-world-%2B%253cmark%253e-pakistan%253c%2Fmark%253e-finalize-details-for-karachi-port-freight-corridor\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">back in January<\/a>. The cooperation comes as part of a wider UAE push into Pakistan after the government of Dubai signed two investment framework agreements <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/54b28a5e-e04c-42b4-a81a-b5a2041e3e21\/dubai-%2B-pakistan-ink-usd-3-bn-agreements-on-rail-and-a-new-economic-zone\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last year<\/a> worth USD 3 bn with Pakistan to cooperate on railways, economic and logistics zones, and multimodal infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>DP World, NLC have more going on for them:<\/strong> DP World and NCL are also collaborating on transnational intermodal freight, and have recently concluded their first commercial cargo delivery through a new intermodal route connecting UAE and Central Asia just last week <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JLCQW2y49wo\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">(watch, runtime: 00:58)<\/a>. The shipment \u2014 which took off from UAE\u2019s Jebel Ali Port \u2014 was shipped to Karachi and then moved via road to Tajikistan\u2019s Dushanbe in some 16 days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Other UAE majors are going all in on Karachi: <\/strong>AD Ports Group secured a 25-year concession to expand the bulk and general cargo terminal at Karachi Port <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/095dd770-97c5-42d5-8604-70b5768d93d0\/ad-ports-group-inks-agreement-to-further-developments-and-operations-at%253cmark%253e-karachi%253c%2Fmark%253e%253cmark%253e-port%253c%2Fmark%253e\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last year<\/a>. The agreement will see AD Ports invest USD 175 mn through its JV with UAE-based Kaheel Terminals to build new berths in the terminal and boost its capacity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">IN OTHER NEWS FROM DP WORLD- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Port operator DP <\/strong><strong>World is <\/strong><strong>in advanced talks to operate a new container terminal in Canada\u2019s Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-08-29\/dp-world-vies-for-deal-to-run-montreal-port-championed-by-carney?srnd=phx-economics-trade\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reported on Friday. Construction on the USD 1.2 bn (AED 4.4 bn) terminal project \u2014 located in Contrec\u0153ur, along the St Lawrence River northeast of Montr\u00e9al \u2014 is set to begin this month, with completion scheduled for 2029. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About the project: <\/strong>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.port-montreal.com\/en\/ctc-home\/ctc-project\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">new terminal<\/a> will feature two berths, a container handling yard with a 1.2 mn TEU capacity, an intermodal linkage yard, and industrial services facilities. It is projected to boost Montr\u00e9al Port Authority\u2019s handling capacity by over 50% to 2.1 mn TEUs annually. The authority \u2014 which manages the largest container port in Eastern Canada \u2014 handles 2k vessels annually across 23 terminals, according to its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.port-montreal.com\/en\/the-port-of-montreal\/about-the-port\/at-a-glance\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why does this matter to Canada? <\/strong>Expanding Montr\u00e9al Port\u2019s capacity is critical to Canada\u2019s supply chain resilience amid trade volatility with the US. Without expansion, the port could quickly <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.port-montreal.com\/en\/the-port-of-montreal\/projects\/terminal-in-contrecoeur\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">reach its full handling capacity<\/a> if only 6% of US-bound exports are diverted elsewhere.
