The <\/strong>Africa Procurement and Supply Chain Leaders\u2019 Conference<\/a><\/strong> is on its second day <\/strong>and will run until Friday, 29 August in Dubai<\/strong>. The conference will bring together global industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore AI innovation in procurement and supply chain efficiency, sustainability, and risk management.<\/p>\n \n WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n <\/a>#1- <\/strong>DP <\/strong>World's feeder service subsidiary Unifeeder is set to relaunch its <\/strong>Egypt\u2013Syria service in September<\/strong>, according to a statement<\/a>. The move comes as part of Unifeeder\u2019s push to expand its footprint in the Eastern Mediterranean, which has seen it reach the sixth top spot for Mediterranean operators, clinching a market share of 4.3% as of 1 December 2024, up from 1.5% the previous year, according to data by Alphaliner<\/a>.<\/p>\n ICYMI- <\/strong>Unifeeder launched<\/a> the India Med Service (IMD) last month in a bid to boost connectivity between India, Egypt, and Turkey, offering its services every 10 days for dry and reefer cargo. <\/p>\n DP World is expanding in Syria: <\/strong>DP World landed<\/a> a 30-year concession to develop and operate Tartus Port, Syria\u2019s second largest port, last month. The logistics giant is set to invest USD 800 mn to redevelop the port \u2014 which will be operated under a build-operate-transfer model \u2014 with the goal of making it a key trade link in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n IN OTHER DP WORLD NEWS- Drydocks World secures contract for FLNG facility in Mexico: <\/strong>Amigo LNG \u2014 a JV between Texas-based Epcilon LNG and Singapore-based LNG Alliance \u2014 awarded DP World\u2019s Drydocks World an engineering, procurement, and construction contract (EPC) for what will be the world\u2019s largest floating liquified natural gas (FLNG) liquefaction facility, Wam<\/a> reports. The project includes converting two LNG carriers into floating storage units and building two new FLNG barges at Drydocks\u2019 Dubai yard.<\/p>\n The details: <\/strong>Scheduled to begin operations in 2H 2028, the four-vessel facility off Mexico\u2019s west coast will have a capacity of more than 4.2 mn tons of liquefaction capacity a year, making it the largest FLNG development worldwide. It will help enable direct LNG exports from Mexico to meet growing demand in Asia and Latin America.<\/p>\n <\/a> #2- <\/strong>Iran <\/strong>to import Russian gas via Azerbaijan: <\/strong>Iran is reportedly close to resolving outstanding issues with the Russian energy giant Gazprom, paving the way for importing Russian gas via Azerbaijan in the \u201cnear future,\u201d Tehran\u2019s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali told Moscow-based outlet Tass<\/a>. The price of the imported fuel has been a major stumbling block to reaching an agreement, Jalali is quoted as saying. <\/p>\n ICYMI-<\/strong> Tehran reportedly agreed to import 55 bn cubic meters (bcm) of Russian gas per year \u2014 without settling on a price \u2014 last April, while Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev suggested that Moscow could supply some 1.8 bcm of natural gas to Iran as early as 2025, Reuters<\/a> reported at the time. Jalali indicated<\/a> Iran\u2019s readiness to tranship Russian natural gas through its territory last year.<\/p>\n #3- <\/strong><\/a> SCA courts Hyundai to enhance its shipyard services: <\/strong>The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is in talks with South Korea\u2019s Hyundai Corporation to develop the Port Said Shipyard and set up an extension in Port Fouad to build eco-friendly vessels and recycle ship scraps, according to a statement<\/a>. The project is still in the technical and preliminary feasibility studies phase.<\/p>\n ALSO- <\/strong>Hyundai Corporation has completed the necessary preliminary studies and technical proposals needed ahead of taking on the modernization of the Suez Shipyard Company<\/a>. The two sides will ink an MoU within six months to begin the necessary studies and designs ahead of implementation.<\/p>\n \n MARKET WATCH- <\/p>\n #1- Oil prices took a dip this morning as the markets continued to brace for supply <\/strong>disruptions caused by developments in the Ukraine-Russia war<\/strong>, Reuters<\/a> reports. Brent crude futures fell by USD 0.32 to reach USD 68.48 \/ bbl by 04.48 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) decreased by USD 0.33 to trade at USD 64.47 \/ bbl. <\/p>\n Meanwhile,<\/strong> Brent crude futures traded at a slight markdown to Dubai<\/strong>, slipping USD 0.3 \/ bbl below the Middle Eastern benchmark for the first time in four months, Bloomberg<\/a> reports. Gulf crudes \u2014 the backbone of Asian imports \u2014 are typically pegged against Dubai, making the move a key indicator of shifting demand dynamics.<\/p>\n REMEMBER- <\/strong>The brief pullback<\/a> in Indian purchases of Russian barrels opened space for Gulf grades \u2014 like Murban \u2014 to capture stronger demand. Brent and Dubai spreads were softening<\/a> due to the expected jump<\/a> in Opec+ supply in September and easing concerns over Russian supply disruptions.<\/p>\n Over in Iraq, refining capacity has inched up to 1.3 mn barrels per day (bbl \/ d) <\/strong>\u2014 up from 1.1 mn bbl \/ d in 2024, according to a statement<\/a>. The increase comes as Iraq looks to meet domestic consumption, reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, and reach its refining capacity target of 1.65 mn bbl \/ d. The country is slated to become a net exporter of oil products<\/a> \u2014 once it achieves fuel self-sufficiency \u2014 thanks to a series of refinery expansions set to go live this year at South Refineries Co.\u2019s facilities in Basra, Maysan, and Najaf. <\/p>\n DATA POINTS- <\/p>\n #1- Saudi Arabia\u2019s non-oil exports rose 5.6% y-o-y in 2Q 2025 to SAR 55.1 bn, <\/strong>according to preliminary data from the General Authority for Statistics (Gastat) (pdf)<\/a>. Total non-oil exports \u2014 including re-exports \u2014 were up 17.8% y-o-y at SAR 87.9 bn during the quarter, as re-exports soared 46.2% y-o-y to hit SAR 32.8 bn. <\/p>\n But a drop in oil exports caused the country\u2019s trade balance to see a sharp dip in 2Q, shrinking by 56.2% y-o-y to a surplus of SAR<\/strong> 38.2 bn, <\/strong>with total imports rising to SAR 234.7 bn, while total exports fell to SAR 273.8 bn. This level is almost the lowest value since 3Q 2020.<\/p>\n Breaking it down: <\/strong>Crude exports dipped 15.8% y-o-y during the quarter to SAR 186 bn. Meanwhile, the share of oil exports out of total exports decreased by 6.8 percentage points to 67.9% over the same period. Meanwhile, the ratio of non-oil exports to imports inched up by 1.5 percentage points y-o-y to 37.3% in 2Q 2025, despite imports increasing 13.1%.<\/p>\n The main ports:<\/strong> Dammam\u2019s King Abdulaziz Port received 26.2% of the Kingdom\u2019s total imports in 2Q, followed by Jeddah Islamic Port (22.6%) and Riyadh\u2019s King Khalid International Airport (13.4%). <\/p>\n #2- <\/strong>GCC <\/strong>leads Dubai Chamber exports in 1H:<\/strong> GCC markets accounted for 48.6% of all exports and re-exports for members of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in 1H 2025, valued at AED 83.6 bn, according to a statement<\/a>.
