Good morning, friends. <\/strong>It\u2019s a brisk read this morning, with investment updates from UAE and Saudi-backed players. We also have Egypt\u2019s and Lebanon\u2019s latest PMI report \u2014 and it\u2019s not exactly rosy. Let\u2019s dive right in. <\/p>\n

HAPPENING TODAY-<\/p>\n

#1- The <\/strong>Airport Show<\/a><\/strong>, taking place alongside the <\/strong>Global Airport Leaders Forum<\/a><\/strong>, is on its second day and will wrap <\/strong>up tomorrow, <\/strong>8 May<\/strong> at Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC). The events will bring together airport and aviation industry professionals to discuss the latest trends in airport infrastructure, emerging technologies, and solutions to industry challenges. <\/p>\n

#2- <\/strong>Seatrade Maritime Logistics Middle East<\/a><\/strong> will also wrap up tomorrow<\/strong> at DWTC. The event will bring together professionals in shipping, logistics, and supply chain management to discuss and debate industry challenges and the latest innovations. <\/p>\n

\n

WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n

<\/a>#1- Major regional airliners are readying big Boeing orders during Trump's anticipated visit <\/strong>to the Gulf next week, <\/strong>Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing unnamed sources familiar with the transactions. Qatar Airways is set to take the lead by finalizing an order of 100 Boeing-made widebody jets that will include Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft along with a smaller number of 777x jets, the sources said. UAE\u2019s Emirates and flydubai are also mulling widebody jet orders, with flydubai eyeing hundreds of 737s. <\/p>\n

The slew of oncoming orders will also include hundreds of General Electric (GE) engines <\/strong>used for Boeing aircraft<\/strong>, the sources said. Qatar Airways and flydubai are reportedly finalizing contracts, with the latter in the market for 70 GE engines to accommodate their 787 Dreamliners.<\/p>\n

Riyadh Air may favor Airbus: <\/strong>PIF-owned Riyadh Air is reportedly negotiating an order of 50 widebody jets, but Airbus is reportedly emerging as a potential supplier. \u201cA campaign is ongoing for an ultra wide body order and a decision will be made in the coming months,\u201d the Saudi airline told Bloomberg. <\/p>\n

Some context: <\/strong>Several airline players are looking to clinch earlier delivery slots<\/a> from Boeing amid China\u2019s halt on receiving jets from the US manufacturer, which saw Chinese companies turning down at least two deliveries recently. The orders are also viewed by Gulf governments as a nod to the US the trade war, as well as personally to Trump who likes to brag about his immense dealmaking skills, Bloomberg reports.<\/p>\n

<\/a>#2- <\/strong>Israel<\/strong> bombs Yemeni air and sea ports: <\/strong>Israel launched a set of airstrikes targeting Yemen\u2019s main air and sea ports in what it said was a retaliation against the Houthi missile attack on Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Sunday, Reuters<\/a> reports. Israel first struck Yemen\u2019s main seaport in Hodeidah on Monday evening before following with another airstrike on the country\u2019s main international airport in Sanaa.<\/p>\n

The airstrikes decimated critical infrastructure: <\/strong>Hodeidah port \u2014 alone responsible for about 80% of the country\u2019s food imports<\/a> \u2014 sustained major damage, with some 70% of the port\u2019s docks, warehouses, and customs area destroyed, two sources told Reuters<\/a>. Sanaa\u2019s airport was also hit hard with strikes targeting the departure hall, the runway, a military base controlled by Houthis, as well as three civilian jets owned by the country\u2019s flagship carrier Yemenia Airways, three sources told Reuters<\/a>. Yemeni authorities said the airport would be shut down until further notice. <\/p>\n

Hodeidah Port <\/strong>was targeted<\/a><\/strong> in 2024 as part of a US-led campaign against Yemen<\/strong>, spearheaded by former US President Joe Biden<\/a>. President Donald Trump ordered continued strikes<\/a> last March, vowing to maintain the onslaught until the Houthis cease their attacks on US and US-aligned ships<\/a> in the Red Sea. <\/p>\n

<\/a>#3- Airbus deliveries in April down: <\/strong>European jet maker Airbus delivered 55 jets to its customers in April, a 22.5% m-o-m drop \u2014 based on our calculations \u2014 from the 71 jets<\/a> it delivered in March, Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing people familiar with the matter. The drop comes as the planemaker continues to face engine shortages, especially for the ones used in its A320neo model. <\/p>\n

ICYMI: <\/strong>Airbus delivered a total of 136 commercial units<\/a> in 1Q 2025, a 4% decrease, based on our calculations, from the company\u2019s 142 units delivered in 1Q 2024. The deliveries included 106 units of the A320 family, 14 A220s, nine A350s, and four A330s.<\/p>\n

MARKET WATCH- <\/p>\n

#1- Oil price<\/strong>s surged this morning<\/strong> amid optimism over China-US trade talks and a <\/strong>dip in US production, <\/strong>Reuters<\/a> reports. Brent crude futures went up by USD 0.44 to USD 62.59 a barrel, while the US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased by USD 0.50 to reach USD 59.59 a barrel by 04.00 GMT. <\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia hiked<\/strong> its crude oil selling price for buyers in Asia despite Opec+ decision to <\/strong>accelerate production<\/a><\/strong> for June<\/strong>, Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing a price list it said it had seen. Aramco bolstered the price of all its crude offerings \u2014 including the Arab Light grade \u2014 by USD 0.20 a barrel in June for all its largest Asian buyers, undercutting previous forecasts that pricing would be increased by USD 0.30.<\/p>\n

Opec+ could ramp up production rates to as much as 2.2 mn bbl \/ d by November<\/strong>, sources from the group told Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MEANWHILE- <\/strong>Aramco cut May\u2019s official selling prices for propane by USD 5 to USD 610 per metric ton, while butane rates dipped by USD 15 to USD 590 a ton, traders told Reuters<\/a> <\/p>\n

#2- Baltic index<\/strong> dips once again:<\/strong> The Baltic Exchange\u2019s dry bulk sea freight index \u2014 which tracks rates for the capesize, panamax, and supramax vessel segments \u2014 was down 15<\/a> points to 1,406 on Tuesday. The capesize dropped 42 points to 2,037 points, while the panamax index dipped 8 points to 1,360. The smaller supramax index grew two points to 957.<\/p>\n

DATA POINT- <\/p>\n

Mor<\/strong>occo\u2019s <\/strong>trade <\/strong>deficit increased 17% y-o-y to MAD 72 bn (USD 7.1 bn) in 1Q 2025<\/strong>, Morocco World News<\/a> reports, citing Office des Changes data. The country\u2019s product imports grew by 7% y-o-y to MAD 188 bn, while exports increased 1.5% y-o-y to MAD 116 bn during the same time period. <\/p>\n

A few notable mentions: <\/strong>Morocco\u2019s aviation sector exported some MAD 7 bn worth of goods and services, while the size of the agri-food sector exports remained the same at MAD 26.7 bn. Meanwhile, imports of raw materials rose by 26% y-o-y to MAD 9.4 bn.<\/p>\n

PSA-<\/p>\n

Hapag<\/strong>-Lloyd <\/strong>mandates pallet use in KSA:<\/strong> Shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd is mandating the use of pallets to load goods in containers at ports in Saudi Arabia \u2014 as requested by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) \u2014 effective 1 June, according to a statement<\/a>. Failure to comply with the pallet requirement will result in penalties and fines in accordance with applicable Saudi laws and regulations. Products excluded from the requirement include dry or liquid bulk materials loaded directly on their means for transport.<\/p>\n
