The nation\u2019s headline figure came in at 50.5, down from 50.6 in January, marking Lebanon\u2019s second month in expansion territory since July 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER-<\/strong> The all-important 50.0 mark is the threshold separating contraction from growth. Anything above 50 denotes expansion, while anything below indicates contraction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Outstanding business levels were at their highest mark since the survey began in May 201<\/strong><strong>3,<\/strong> with improving sales performances pushing companies\u2019 operating capacities \u201cas evidenced by an uptick in backlogged orders,\u201d according to the report. The country also saw an upturn in sales that was also among the sharpest on record. This reflected in \u201cgreater new business volumes from overseas customers,\u201d with private sector firms registering higher new export orders for the first time since November 2023. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Geopolitical factors may be behind the slowdown:<\/strong> \u201cThe PMI may have eased due to Israel's continued presence in five strategic locations, which threatens Lebanon's security,\u201d Blominvest Bank\u2019s Mira Said said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>New order growth was also sustained throughout the month,<\/strong> albeit at a lower pace than in January. Meanwhile, purchasing activity saw its fastest expansion since 2013, with stocks of inputs expanding at an accelerated pace. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Price pressures rose during the month,<\/strong> as a sharp rise in purchasing costs drove up businesses\u2019 operating expenses. Meanwhile, \u201cgreater shipping fees were accompanied by vendor charge increases\u201d \u2014 all of which collectively contributed to output price inflation accelerating towards a near two-year high. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Businesses remain confident:<\/strong> \u201cThe year-ahead outlook also remained buoyant, with survey respondents predicting further activity growth over the next 12 months.\u201d The election of a new president and the formation of a new cabinet \u2014 one that is believed to be pro-reform \u2014 have boosted optimism among Lebanese businesses, Mira Said wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Over in Qatar:<\/strong> Qatari non-oil private sector\u2019s growth rose for the first time in three months in February, in a jump that indicates \u201ca faster overall improvement in business conditions in the non-energy private sector economy,\u201d according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.spglobal.com\/Public\/Home\/PressRelease\/c66f24ed7189472f83ea91c52e45027b\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Qatar Financial Center PMI (pdf)<\/a>. The nation\u2019s headline figure rose to 51.0, up from 50.2 in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/22512de2-faf0-41e0-8f55-63d4e536cd32\/how-non-oil-private-sectors-in-uae-%2B%253cmark%253e-qatar%253c%2Fmark%253e-fared-in-january\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">January<\/a>, sending Qatar more comfortably above the 50.0 threshold indicating growth. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>New orders fell for the second month running,<\/strong> but overall business activity remained broadly stable. Meanwhile, purchasing activity slowed down once again, with firms optimizing inventories with a reduction in stock levels for the second month in a row.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Employment grew at a record high of 61.9 in February,<\/strong> extending the current sequence of job creation to seven consecutive months. The wholesale & retail sectors posted a fresh record increase in jobs during the month, while the construction sector saw the slowest level of recruitment this month. \"The employment component was the dominant influence on the headline PMI in February.
