Libya <\/strong>taps Qatar <\/strong>for Tripoli Airport project:<\/strong> Libya\u2019s Transport Ministry and the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) have inked an MoU with Qatar\u2019s UCC Holdings\u2019 UrbaCon Trading and Contracting company to conduct feasibility studies to establish a different financing model for the first terminal at Tripoli International Airport, Libya Herald<\/a> reported. No timeline or investment ticket has been disclosed. <\/p>\n

Switching sides?<\/strong> Italy\u2019s Aeneas Consortium was awarded the contract to revamp the airport back in 2017<\/a>, but Libya\u2019s lack of funds brought the construction and partnership to a halt. The project has been transferred to a Libyan firm \u2014 deploying a new investment-based approach to help implement and finance the project. <\/p>\n

Strengthening partnerships: <\/strong>Qatar and Libya inked an updated air services agreement in April 2024<\/a>, as well as a bilateral MoU, allowing the two countries\u2019 national carriers to operate an unlimited number of weekly passenger and cargo flights per week. The agreement was later updated in January 2025, according to a statement<\/a> published last month. <\/p>\n

About Tripoli International Airport: <\/strong>The airport is located south of Libya\u2019s capital Tripoli in the Qasr bin Gashir region, Turkey Today<\/a> reported in April 2024.
