<\/strong>A boon for livestock supply chains: <\/strong>The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) \u2014 alongside AD Ports and the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) \u2014 has inaugurated a 32.7k sqm veterinary quarantine facility at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, according to a press release<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The impact: <\/strong>The facility aims to accommodate over 1 mn heads of livestock per year in a bid to diversify the country\u2019s import sources and strengthen its livestock supply chains. The facility also intends to increase the UAE\u2019s trade in live animals and re-exports, as well as attract both local and international companies to the live animal trade and meat business.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mitigating risks: <\/strong>The quarantine facility will lower risks associated with zoonotic diseases \u2014 infectious disease spread from animals to humans. The animals will undergo standard procedures from their country of origin to certify that they are free of diseases and pathogens in accordance with regulations. <\/p>\n

Food security is a key objective for the UAE: <\/strong>The UAE and Japan<\/a> are in talks to boost food security and trade in the two regions. DP World recently inked an MoU with the Dubai Municipality<\/a> to develop the world\u2019s largest logistics hub for foodstuffs, fruit, and vegetable trade in a bid to strengthen the UAE\u2019s food security to meet the nation\u2019s growing demands. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
