THE BIG LOGISTICS STORY- Saudi Arabia\u2019s cabinet has greenlit a project to link the kingdom to Kuwait via a 111km railway<\/strong>. Over in Qatar, state energy firm QatarEnergy has made a blockbuster acquisition of 14 LNG carriers from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. <\/p>\n

HAPPENING TODAY- <\/strong><\/p>\n

Jordan\u2019s army has downed two drones carrying methamphetamine across the <\/strong> border with Syria<\/strong>, Reuters<\/a> reports. Jordan blames Iranian-backed militias in southern Syria for increased drug smuggling operations across its border.<\/p>\n

<\/a> I <\/strong> raq\u2019s national carrier <\/strong>Iraqi Airways<\/a><\/strong> wi <\/strong> ll resume direct flights between Baghdad <\/strong> and Moscow on 30 September<\/strong>, Iraqi news<\/a> reports. The carrier will operate two flights weekly to Moscow. The airline is also expected to begin operating flights to Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia, and China, the outlet quotes Iraqi Airways Director General Manaf Abdel Monem as saying.<\/p>\n

The airline has been making moves to expand: <\/strong> Manaf recently<\/a> met with Canadian Ambassador to Iraq Gregory Galligan to discuss lifting an EU ban on the carrier. The carrier has also recently added two<\/a> Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft to its fleet and aims to add 31 new aircraft<\/a> by 2027.<\/p>\n

Dubai\u2019s Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved a <\/strong> set of new proje <\/strong> cts <\/strong> across sectors like transport, aviation<\/strong>, urban planning and health care, Emirati news agency WAM<\/a> reports. The project comes as part of the third phase of its \u201cDubai 10X\u201d initiative, which aims to position the emirate as a world leader, and focuses on innovative and unconventional projects and initiatives on a global scale, WAM writes. The projects are poised to \u201cstreamline and expedite transportation,\u201d enhance the travel experience at Dubai\u2019s airports, and establish a robust healthcare system, Al Maktoum commented. <\/p>\n

DATA POINT- <\/strong> Bahrain\u2019s trade deficit narrowed to BD 39 mn in August<\/strong>, according to data from its Information and e-government authority<\/a>. The country\u2019s imports rose 3% y-o-y to BD 534 mn during the month, while exports rose 8% y-o-y to BD 416 mn, according to the data. The three countries Bahrain exported the biggest amounts to were Saudi Arabia, the US and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s <\/strong> oil exports are expected to rise in October: <\/strong>China is expected to experience a surge in fuel products next month as state-owned refiners are taking advantage of lucrative margins and a recovery in international flights, which has led to heightened Western demand, according to analysts and industry sources cited by Reuters<\/a>. Fuel exports are forecasted to reach 4.02 mn tonnes in October, up from just 2.38 mn tonnes in September, according to Kpler data cited by Reuters. <\/p>\n
