Kuwait + Iraq discuss <\/strong> Khor Abdullah maritime agreement: <\/strong>Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmed Nawaf Al Sabah met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al Sudani in New York on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly session to discuss the potential impacts of Iraq\u2019s recent annulment of a law governing its Khor Abdullah maritime agreement<\/a> with Kuwait, Kuwaiti news agency KUNA<\/a> reports. Al Sabah highlighted the need for the demarcation<\/a> of the Kuwait-Iraq maritime boundary, as well as for the Iraqi government to address what he described as \u201c historical inaccuracies<\/a> \u201d against Kuwait presented in court. <\/p>\n

What agreement? <\/strong> The agreement designated Khor Abdullah as a maritime line dividing the two countries, and stipulated that \u201ceach party would exercise its sovereignty over the part of the waterway that lies within its territorial water.\u201d The agreement was signed after the First Gulf War and is in line with a UN resolution issued in 1993<\/a>. <\/p>\n

REMEMBER- <\/strong>An Iraqi court has ruled that the agreement \u2014 signed by former Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki in 2013 \u2014 was unconstitutional because it should have been ratified by a two-thirds majority of the Iraqi parliament rather than a simple majority.<\/p>\n

Iran and the Maldives decided to restore diplomatic relations following a seven-year rift<\/strong>, Irani official news agency IRNA<\/a> reports. The two countries agreed to develop relations and cooperation in investment, trade, travel and people-to-people contact, science, and technological innovation, IRNA adds.<\/p>\n

Egypt + Jordan + Iraq discuss strengthening economic ties: <\/strong>The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq discussed enhancing economic cooperation, the completion of proposed projects between the three countries, and the introduction of new projects in several fields including trade, according to a statement<\/a>. The meeting took place last week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n

China and Kuwait ink MoUs in port development + freezones: <\/strong> Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Saad Al Barrak and Chinese Transport Minister Li Xiaopeng inked an agreement on the development of Kuwait\u2019s Mubarak Al Kabeer port, Kuwaiti news agency KUNA<\/a> reports. The Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority and Chinese Trade Minister Wang Wentao also inked an MoU on economic and freezone development. <\/p>\n
