THE BIG LOGISTICS STORY- <\/strong>The UAE has issued amendments to a law capping heavy trucks operating on the country\u2019s roads to 65 tonnes, in a bid to promote safety and safeguard the UAE\u2019s road infrastructure. The amendments will come into effect on 1 October, but vehicle owners will get a grace period of four months before being penalized.<\/p>\n

<\/a> Jordanian port workers injur <\/strong> ed in Storm Daniel dust up: <\/strong>Following the havoc wreaked by Storm Daniel, 20 port workers at Jordan\u2019s Aqaba outlet were hospitalized with breathing problems as dust particle measurements rose to 200 microgram per cubic meter, the National<\/a> cites a local official as saying. Workers at Aqaba have been ordered to halt work as a precaution, the outlet adds. <\/p>\n

And p <\/strong> orts reopen in Libya <\/strong> : <\/strong>In Libya, major oil ports Brega, Es Sidra, Ras Lanuf, and Zueitina in Libya have reopened after shutting down on Saturday due to the storm, Reuters<\/a> reports, citing a statement from port agent Al Omran International Maritime Agencies. Flash floods have caused a lot of damage in Libya, destroying several towns and causing a \u201chuge\u201d death toll, a senior Libyan official told the UN, the National writes. <\/p>\n

<\/a> Morocco sets up central warehouse for earthquake aid distribution: <\/strong>Morocco\u2019s Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity<\/a> has established a warehouse in Marrakech to collect aid for victims of the devastating earthquake<\/a> that hit the country last week, Morocco World News<\/a> reports.The partners are receiving, organizing, and preparing shipments of aid for affected areas, which are donated by citizens and civil society organizations across Morocco, the outlet reports. The central warehouse will supply local warehouses in the Marrakech\/Safi region, from where they will be delivered to those affected.<\/p>\n

<\/a> DP World<\/a><\/strong> has been announced as a \u201cprincipal pathway partner\u201d for <\/strong> COP28<\/strong>, according to a company press release<\/a>. The move comes as part of the logistics giant\u2019s decarbonization drive, as it looks to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero carbon by 2050. \u201cOur work with COP28 and other industry peers underscores our commitment to combating climate change and fostering sustainable global trade,\u201d Group CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said. <\/p>\n

MARKET WATCH- <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a> Adnoc guns for more trade with Europe<\/strong>: Emirati oil giant Abu Dhabi National Oil Company is looking to expand from its traditional Asian market and step up energy contracts with Europe and Africa \u2014 with a particular focus on liquified natural gas (LNG), an unnamed source told Bloomberg<\/a> yesterday. Over the coming year, Adnoc is targeting two to three long-term contracts to buy LNG, and the same number of supply agreements with customers, in a bid to replace Russia as Europe\u2019s main energy supplier, up its trading operations, and capture more of the value chain. <\/p>\n

Oman\u2019s new Duqm oil refinery has shipped its first diesel cargo as part of test runs: <\/strong>Oman\u2019s new Duqm oil refinery has shipped its first 35k tons of diesel cargo to a destination in East Africa, Al Arabiya<\/a> reported citing trade sources and ship tracking data. The 230k barrel per day facility is 50:50 owned between Oman\u2019s OQ Group<\/a> and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI)<\/a> and has been running trials since halfway through this year, sources told the news agency. Work at the refinery was 98.9% complete by July\u2019s end, KPI CEO Shafi al Ajmi reportedly said. The refinery is expected to start commissioning soon and ramp up capacity within six months. <\/p>\n

The event, hosted by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Hong Kong Trade Development Council, will bring together government officials and business leaders from countries and regions alon \u2014 and beyond \u2014 the Belt and Road to cooperate and explore potential business avenues. The summit will have Middle East-focused sessions with the aim of exploring cooperation in urban transport, infrastructure projects, renewable energy, logistics, and technology. <\/p>\n

The Sustainable Transportation and Legacy for Generations Conference and Exhibition<\/strong>, which is organized by Qatar\u2019s Transport Ministry and sponsored by Qatar Airways Group, Mwani Qatar, and QNB, will take place on 17-18 September at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, Gulf Times<\/a> reports.
