Russia has been carrying out <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/3d2cc15f-1b97-406f-baab-739ecf8b4f1b\" style=\"\">regular attacks<\/a><\/span><span> on Ukraine\u2019s ports and grain storage infrastructure after <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/36ebc0ad-a634-4c46-af5f-cbb121405ba6\" style=\"\">exiting<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> the Black Sea grain initiative that had allowed Ukraine to export grain unimpeded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"\"> <a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">DATA POINT #1- <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Saudi Arabia\u2019s port traffic rose by 8% to 14.3k vessels in 2022 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">compared to 2021<\/span><span>, according to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/8\/31.pdf\" style=\"\">data (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span> from the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stats.gov.sa\/en\" style=\"\">General Authority for Statistics<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. The traffic in Jeddah Islamic Port took the lion\u2019s share of ship traffic with 3.9k ships, followed by King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu with 2.3k ships, and King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam with 2.17k ships. Saudi ports recorded 228.8 mn tonnes of outbound cargo in 2022, while inbound cargo amounted to 128.6 mn tons. King Fahad Industrial Port recorded the highest amount of exports with 99.04 mn tons, and Jeddah Islamic Port was highest in terms of imports with 33.2 mn tons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">DATA POINT #2- Hamad International Airport (DOH) handled 1.1 mn tons of cargo <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">in 1H 2023<\/span><span>, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qna.org.qa\/en\/News-Area\/News\/2023-07\/31\/0047-hamad-international-airport-records-over-335-increase-in-passenger-traffic-during-first-half-of-2023\" style=\"\">Qatar News Agency<\/a><\/span><span> reports. June saw the highest-ever monthly deliveries of new ships, with more than 300k TEU of capacity from a total of 40 new ships added to the market, exacerbating the low demand and pushing rates down across all major trading corridors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The global pool of container equipment is expected to contract by 2% in 2023<\/span><span style=\"\">, <\/span><span>according to a <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drewry.co.uk\/\" style=\"\">Drewry<\/a><\/span><span> report<\/span><span> picked up by <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellenicshippingnews.com\/carrier-reliance-on-leased-container-fleet-to-support-higher-per-diems-and-cash-returns\/\" style=\"\">Hellenic Shipping News<\/a><\/span><span>. The contraction is attributed to weak trade growth and owners disposing of more equipment in order to improve utilization rates, which reached 97% in 2Q 2023, the lowest since 2Q 2020.<\/span><span>Sales of used<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> boxes will remain high in 2H 2023, Drewry forecasts, as owners shed surplus and aging equipment amid an environment marked by weak appetite for new containers.
