{"id":71942,"date":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2023\/07\/10\/egypts-house-of-representatives-approves-two-projects-to-expand-east-port-said-port\/"},"modified":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T00:00:00","slug":"egypts-house-of-representatives-approves-two-projects-to-expand-east-port-said-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2023\/07\/10\/egypts-house-of-representatives-approves-two-projects-to-expand-east-port-said-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt\u2019s House of Representatives approves two projects to expand East Port Said port"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Egypt\u2019s House of Representatives yesterday gave its final approval to two bills aimed at expanding East Port Said port\u2019s capacity. <\/span><span style=\"\">The projects include a<\/span><span> USD 65 mn project to set up a new multi-purpose terminal at the port, as well as the USD 500 mn expansion of a container handling station, according to an SCZone <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SCZONE.EG\/posts\/pfbid02qNF3LmCRmTLCiwPB2ZoRcAd9FXvKAVrET1GhFG9phET4dtcG855LP5hDPb9A19g4l\" style=\"\">statement<\/a><\/span><span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The first bill: <\/span><span style=\"\">The bill would allow the SCZone to hand a 30-year contract to Sky Logistics and Reliance Logistics to design, construct, manage, operate and maintain the terminal under a build-own-transfer framework, after Egyptian private investment outfit <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sky-investments.com\/\" style=\"\">Sky Investments<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> and Reliance Logistics signed the contract back in <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/62ab9cb5-220a-4f30-b830-9c8b09134131\" style=\"\">2022<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">About the terminal: <\/span><span style=\"\">The<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> multipurpose terminal will be built at the western berth of SCZone\u2019s East Port Said Port. It will feature a 900 meter container berth, and include a 380k sqm cargo handling yard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The second bill: <\/span><span style=\"\">The second bill would allow <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maersk.com\/\" style=\"\">AP Moller-Maersk\u2019s<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) to start work on the new container terminal at the port, which is expected to raise its capacity by 40% and cost USD 500 mn. The terminal, for which agreements were signed in <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/458ecb73-0cc1-4a59-8962-eacb4602b09d\" style=\"\">2022<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, will make the terminal the largest in the East Mediterranean, with a total berth length of 3.3k meters, according to the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">About the terminal:<\/span><span> The SCCT will build a 1k-meter container berth which will have an annual capacity of 2 mn TEU, raising the port\u2019s capacity from 5 mn currently to 7 mn, sources <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/7fbc6ab8-28c6-45ed-a13e-006f4c262c5c\" style=\"\">reported<\/a><\/span><span> earlier.
