THE BIG LOGISTICS STORY- Bahrain-based cargo airline <\/span>Texel Air<\/span> launched a sister<\/span> airline, Texel Air Australasia, in New Zealand.<\/span> Meanwhile, Egyptian trucking startup <\/span>Trel<\/span>l<\/span>a<\/span> has secured USD 3.5 mn from private equity outfit <\/span>Avanz Capital<\/span> as part of an ongoing bridge funding round.<\/span><\/p>\n

HAPPENING TODAY-<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> <\/span>Iraq is reportedly holding a press conference on its <\/span>Development Road Project<\/a><\/span>today in Baghdad.<\/span> The conference will have potential investors who will discuss possible investments into the project. The country\u2019s <\/span>USD 17 bn project<\/span> \u2014 announced last month \u2014 <\/span>is attracting the attention of foreign investors, including <\/span>Lebanon, China, and Hungary<\/a><\/span>. Iraq is currently <\/span>putting in place<\/span> the final designs for the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Background: <\/span>The USD 17 bn project, announced last month, will involve roads, bridges, and high-speed trains that can transport goods and passengers at speeds of up to 300 km per hour, while the road network is anticipated to facilitate the transportation of some 5-6 mn containers. The project is expected to become a major rival to the Suez Canal, by significantly reducing travel time between Europe and Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> <\/span>An oil spill caused by two tankers colliding in the Lena River in Russia\u2019s Irkutsk <\/span>region has led authorities to declare a state of emergency <\/span>around the Kirensky area, according to <\/span>Reuters<\/a><\/span>. The collision on Monday resulted in the damage of a container and spillage of gasoline into the river, Irkutsk governor Igor Kobzev <\/span>said<\/a><\/span>. Authorities are trying to investigate how much of the 138 metric tons of gas the tanker was carrying went into the river.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> <\/span>WATCH THIS SPACE- Six international companies are competing for a Kuwait <\/span>International Airport maintenance and operations tender<\/span>, Kuwait\u2019s daily <\/span>Alanba<\/a><\/span> reported. Turkey\u2019s <\/span>TAV<\/a><\/span> Airports, India\u2019s <\/span>GMR<\/a><\/span> Group<\/span>, German <\/span>Munich Airport<\/a><\/span> and <\/span>Fraport<\/a><\/span>, Ireland\u2019s <\/span>Dublin Airport<\/a><\/span>, and South Korea\u2019s <\/span>Incheon<\/a><\/span>, made the shortlist following their approval by Kuwait\u2019s official tendering body, the Central Agency for Public Tenders. No deadline for the tender has so far been disclosed. The contract up for grabs involves the operation, maintenance, staff training, and development of the airport's T2 terminal, the daily paper said. <\/span><\/p>\n
