THE BIG LOGISTICS STORY- Egypt <\/span>signed an agreement for the construction of six<\/span> strategic warehouses for medical supplies.<\/span>On the aviation side of things, several airlines are looking at acquiring new aircrafts to expand their fleet, including <\/span>Saudi Arabia\u2019s Riyadh Air, Emirates and Air Arabia.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> <\/span>WATCH THIS SPACE- Saudi Arabia looks to boost air-sea <\/span>logistics connectivity through new agreement: <\/span>The Saudi Ports Authority (<\/span>Mawani<\/a><\/span>), the General Authority of Civil Aviation (<\/span>GACA<\/a><\/span>), and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (<\/span>ZATCA<\/a><\/span>) have agreed to \u201cenhance air and sea logistics connectivity\u201d in Saudi Arabia, according to a <\/span>statement<\/a><\/span>. The three-party agreement aims to improve the country\u2019s customs services and logistics operations, and integrate freight operations at air and sea terminals, as well as identify and address challenges in cargo transportation through simulations. The statement does not specify how these goals will be achieved. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> <\/span>IATA releases roadmaps for net zero by 2050: <\/span>The International Air Transport <\/span>Association (IATA) has disclosed a series of \u201cstep-by-step\u201d <\/span>roadmaps<\/a><\/span> for the global aviation sector to achieve net zero by 2050, according to a <\/span>press release<\/a><\/span>. The frameworks assume a holistic approach to the industry with recommendations covering aspects of tech, energy, infrastructure, operations, finance, and policy. The roadmaps underwent peer-to-peer review and are informed by emission reductions models sourced from the <\/span>Air Transportation Systems Laboratory at University College London (UCL)<\/a><\/span>, according to the release.<\/span><\/p>\n

The roadmaps are \u201cnot just for airlines,\u201d but for all stakeholders in the industry:<\/span> \u201cThe roadmaps are the first detailed assessment of the key steps necessary to accelerate the transition to net zero by 2050. Together, they show a clear direction and will evolve as we dig deeper to set interim milestones on the way to net zero,\u201d said IATA Director General Willie Walsh. \u201cI must emphasize that the roadmaps are not just for airlines. Governments, suppliers, and financiers cannot be spectators in aviation\u2019s decarbonization journey. They have skin in the game. The roadmaps are a call to action for all aviation's stakeholders to deliver the tools needed to make this fundamental transformation of aviation a success with policies and products fit for a net-zero world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> <\/span>DP World has rolled out incentives pushing UK clients to cut carbon emissions by <\/span>switching to rail<\/span>, according to a <\/span>statement<\/a><\/span>. The pilot program looks to remove 30k tonnes of CO2 emissions from clients\u2019 supply chains by the end of 2025 by switching out road shipments for rail. The Modal Shift Programme involves a 12-month trial that will see clients receiving import shipments at DP World\u2019s Southampton terminal charged a flat GBP 10 fee per container. This fee can be reimbursed when clients choose to transfer their consignments to railheads more than 140 miles from the terminal, while those moving to a railhead within 140 miles \u2014 which is less of an economic decision \u2014 will receive an additional payout of GBP 70 per container. <\/span><\/p>\n
