The US-led initiative reportedly seeks to rival China\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/backgrounder\/chinas-massive-belt-and-road-initiative\" style=\"\">Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> logistical mega project and to counteract growing Chinese influence in the region. White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was scheduled to meet with Saudi, Emirati, and Indian counterparts <\/span><span style=\"\">yesterday <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">to discuss the plan, sources told Axios. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">A big driver is a push to rival China\u2019s involvement in MENA: <\/span><span style=\"\">\u201cNobody said it out loud but it was about China from day one,\u201d a former senior Israeli official involved in the discussions told Axios. China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative has <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/542003b2-08db-4b0a-b415-2a764664d1e4\" style=\"\">lent bns of USD<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> to infrastructure projects in the MENA region and other low-income countries, including in Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Background:<\/span><span style=\"\"> The proposed logistical corridor\u2019s roots go back to multilateral talks between the USA, UAE, Israel, and India. Israel\u2019s suggestion that the region work with the US towards establishing a logistical corridor during the<\/span><span> I2U2 forum \u2014 which includes the US, Israel, the UAE, and India \u2014 was<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> picked up by the Biden administration, which expanded its scope by getting Saudi Arabia onboard.
