One-third of the new investment program is expected to be completed this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Where it matters:<\/strong> Existing reserves are sufficient for diesel, gasoline, and fuel oil, while jet fuel and butane are the weak spots. The program targets 400k cbm of new butane storage and 100k cbm of jet fuel capacity by 2030, with a focus on household energy and aviation supply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Morocco\u2019s storage problem is also geographic.<\/strong> Roughly 80% of fuel storage capacity is concentrated along the Casablanca-Settat and Tangier-Tetouan corridor, leaving the system exposed to regional imbalance if supply gets disrupted. The government is now steering new capacity toward other regions, with Nador West Med positioned as a strategic fuel and natural gas storage hub.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a><\/strong> <strong>CRUDE<\/strong> <strong>\u2014 Japan is moving to lock more Emirati crude in its own backyard<\/strong>, after securing a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/business\/2026\/05\/06\/japan-uae-oil-stockpiles\/\" style=\"\">commitment<\/a> from the UAE to increase joint crude oil stockpiles held in Japan by Emirati companies. Japan and the UAE already operate joint crude storage <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/energy\/en\/news-research\/latest-news\/crude-oil\/011420-japan-boosts-abu-dhabis-leased-crude-storage-capacity-amid-supply-risk\" style=\"\">facilities<\/a> under a longstanding agreement. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This is what energy trade looks like when chokepoints choke points:<\/strong> The UAE supplies around 40% of Japan\u2019s crude imports, making it one of the most strategically important energy partners. What began as an <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/03\/18\/can-the-gulf-truck-their-way-out-of-hormuz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emergency response<\/a> to the near closure of the strait has since evolved into a regional stress test for supply chains \u2014 one that is reshaping how producers, ports, and shipping lines approach resilience across the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>We also noted at the time that the issue was not about trucks replacing ships<\/strong>, but about redistributing risk across <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/04\/20\/gulf-oil-exporters-weigh-working-around-the-workaround\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pipelines<\/a>, inland corridors, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/03\/05\/can-gulf-ports-outrun-geography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ports<\/a> outside the chokepoints, and multimodal logistics systems \u2014 a distinction that proved critical. The past two months have demonstrated the need for flexibility and diversification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">The landbridge moment<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>What looked like contingency planning is now operating at scale:<\/strong> UAE-based trucking platform Trukker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-15\/gulf-trucking-bypass-moves-metal-consumer-goods-around-strait\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> it deployed more than 500 trucks during the early days of the conflict to support inland landbridge operations \u2014 reporting a 30% increase in road shipments during March.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The map changed:<\/strong> With maritime access through Hormuz constrained, ports like Jeddah on Saudi Arabia\u2019s Red Sea coast, and Oman\u2019s Sohar and Salalah increasingly absorbed cargo flows previously routed through hubs like Jebel Ali. IMF Portwatch data <a href=\"https:\/\/portwatch.imf.org\/pages\/d10ddc98bfee43949a09ea4d790a18f8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">showed<\/a> ship arrivals into Jebel Ali drying up through March and April as carriers and cargo owners searched for alternatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Shipping lines also started acting more like overland logistics operators:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hapag-lloyd.com\/en\/services-information\/news\/2026\/03\/here-s-an-update-about-carrier-haulage-solutions-in-the-middle-e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hapag-Lloyd<\/a> established trucking corridors across Saudi, Oman, and the UAE, connecting Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maersk.com\/news\/articles\/2026\/03\/25\/middle-east-operational-update-15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maersk<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/05\/04\/msc-routes-european-cargo-through-saudis-red-sea-ports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MSC<\/a> rolled out similar land-based cargo solutions across the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">One corridor stood out<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>At the heart of the landbridge push was a functioning <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/hardhats\/shippers-weigh-long-term-case-for-europe-egypt-gcc-road-leg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe-Egypt-GCC corridor<\/a><\/strong><strong> \u2014 <\/strong>which saw trailers arriving at Damietta, moving overland to Safaga, and then crossing by ferry to Neom before continuing by road into Gulf markets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>That route matters because it provides a different kind of logistical flexibility \u2014 <\/strong> it connects Europe, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Gulf in one continuous logistics chain. Unlike purely intra-Gulf trucking operations, the Egyptian corridor created a cross-peninsula bypass system that is capable of feeding European goods directly into GCC markets \u2014 and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>It\u2019s live and reliable:<\/strong> \u201cWe successfully executed multiple shipments from different European origins, covering both dry and reefer cargo to GCC destinations which started to give more confidence to other customers,\u201d Commercial Director at Pan Marine Ghada Samy tells EnterpriseAM, adding that \u201ccustomers are increasingly relying on this model, as it is helping them reduce safety stock levels and manage cashflow more efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>In the longer run, the model works \u2014 with a few caveats:<\/strong> \u201cUnder normal conditions, this route can make commercial sense when leveraging higher capacity of equipment, door-to-door service, and optimized transit time. As freight rates normalize, the cost gap narrows, making this corridor increasingly competitive,\u201d Samy explains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">What moves \u2014 and what doesn\u2019t<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The disruptions highlighted which sectors can survive on landbridge logistics. <\/strong>High-value and time-sensitive cargo \u2014 industrial inputs, spare parts, FMCG, food products, metals, and petrochemicals \u2014 adapted to hybrid land-sea systems despite the added higher costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Bulk commodities remain structurally tied\u2026however<\/strong>, Iraq <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/04\/22\/today-syria-lands-usd-200-mn-world-bank-funding-for-rail-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> moved limited crude volumes by truck during the disruption, while Fertiglobe\u2019s CEO Ahmed El-Hoshy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/11a513b6-e0bf-4973-abfc-1d76cf9796ab?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the company continued operations by trucking fertilizer cargoes overland to ports outside Hormuz before loading into ships \u2014 a workaround involving \u201cdouble handling\u201d and higher transport costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>That distinction matters because the economics still favor shipping:<\/strong> Long-haul trucking remains more expensive than maritime transport on a per ton-km basis \u2014 trucking rates climbed as much as 120% in the UAE and 70% in Saudi amid fuel price increases, long haul demand, and operational pressure at serviceable ports \u2014 underscoring the argument made in March that land logistics are less about replacing ships and more about prioritizing critical flows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">The cost of redundancy<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Until recently, supply chains were largely optimized around cost minimization and route <\/strong><strong>efficiency. <\/strong>Repeated disruptions have accelerated a shift toward a resilience-led model. Which means that to play you have to pay \u2014 in a bid to maintain alternative routes, preserve access to multiple ports, expand storage, and keep contingency logistics systems alive even when the cheapest maritime routes partially recover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">We still stand by our take<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The underlying model is already changing: <\/strong>Supply chains are moving from an era of narrow optimization to an era of strategic redundancy, where resilient efficiency \u2014 not minimal cost \u2014 defines a well\u2011designed network. When the same lanes and chokepoints are repeatedly disrupted, building supply chains around a single \u201cmost efficient\u201d route is a concentration of risk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The bottom line:<\/strong> In March, the question was whether the Gulf could build fallback routes quickly enough to survive the chokepoint disruption. Two months later, the bigger question is whether those fallback systems become permanent features of Middle East trade long after the disruption fades. The future isn\u2019t one dominant route \u2014 it\u2019s a portfolio of corridors. Power in global trade is shifting from control of a single chokepoint to control of multiple options when it fails.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>\u201cThe crisis has made visible what was previously hidden: in an interconnected world, <\/strong><strong>resilience is not a luxury<\/strong>;
