Together with the natural gas price hike, these moves squeeze producers by simultaneously raising domestic production costs \u2014 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/inside_industry\/egypt-manages-dual-food-and-fertilizer-crisis-as-hormuz-storm-hits\/\" style=\"\">roughly 70%<\/a> of which is attributed to natgas \u2014 and taxing their final outbound shipments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters:<\/strong> One of two things is in play here. Behind door number one: The Egyptian government wants a larger slice of the windfalls local exporters are generating amid global supply chain shocks. With Hormuz closed, Egyptian producers are <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/inside_industry\/egypt-manages-dual-food-and-fertilizer-crisis-as-hormuz-storm-hits\/\" style=\"\">filling the global gap<\/a> and charging buyers up to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/04\/21\/egypt-on-track-to-clear-outstanding-arrears-to-iocs-by-end-of-june\/\" style=\"\">USD 890 per ton<\/a> for urea \u2014 nearly double the pre-crisis price. Behind door number two: Food security concerns. Policymakers aim to keep more fertilizer at home to hedge against any further downstream price shocks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>  <\/strong><strong>ENERGY<\/strong><strong> \u2014 QatarEnergy has extended force majeure on its LNG <\/strong><strong>supply <\/strong><strong>until<\/strong><strong> mid-June<\/strong> as the strait remains effectively shut to tanker traffic, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-04\/qatar-extends-force-majeure-on-lng-supply-through-mid-june\" style=\"\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing people it says are familiar with the matter. \u201cThey are giving the understanding that as soon as the situation normalizes, they will start the operations and they will start supplying the gas,\u201d India\u2019s Petronet Managing Director Akshay Kumar Singh <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-04\/india-s-petronet-lng-sees-no-clarity-on-qatar-supply-for-june\" style=\"\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Force majeure this, force majeure that:<\/strong> QatarEnergy invoked the contractual clause back in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/03\/05\/conflict-spreads-into-different-countries-and-more-sectors\/\" style=\"\">March<\/a> at the start of the conflict, along with Aluminium Bahrain, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/04\/14\/today-can-a-port-blockade-squeeze-iran-without-closing-hormuz\/\" style=\"\">Emirates Global Aluminium<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/04\/21\/today-irans-toll-play-for-hormuz-passage-relies-on-loopholes\/\" style=\"\">Kuwait Petroleum<\/a>, and Bapco Energies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>\u201cOnce you cut production, it's not like a light switch; you can't really turn it back on <\/strong><strong>again<\/strong>,\u201d CSC Commodities Energy Analyst Sasha Foss <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/03\/12\/a-force-majeure-wave-has-hit-the-gcc-causing-ripple-effects-across-global-markets\/\" style=\"\">previously told us<\/a>. \u201cThese reservoirs will take a lot of work to get them pumping back again to maximum production, so you risk long-term damage in terms of the production figures, which is what the market is scared of,\u201d Foss said. This is kind of the scenario that they feared: \u201cthey really want to fulfill their term contracts,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a> CARGO \u2014 UAE players look to boost cargo flows: <\/strong>Some of the UAE\u2019s logistics heavyweights are teaming up to improve intermodal logistics flows in the Emirates. AD Ports, CMA Terminals Khalifa Port, and shipping giant CMA CGM Group <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adportsgroup.com\/en\/news-and-media\/2026\/05\/05\/ad-ports-group-cma-terminals-khalifa-port-and-cma-cgm-group-sign-mou\" style=\"\">inked an MoU<\/a> to streamline movement between rail depots, dry ports, and cargo depots. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Target areas: <\/strong>The cooperation between the three sides aims to boost movement through the northern Emirates, as well as into Oman and Saudi Arabia. The UAE and Oman are already partnering on a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2024\/10\/10\/bank-consortium-extends-usd-1-5-bn-loan-for-uae-oman-hafeet-rail\/\" style=\"\">USD 2.5 bn rail project<\/a>, which is set <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2025\/10\/27\/hafeet-rail-to-add-new-oman-emirates-freight-line\/\" style=\"\">to include a freight service<\/a>. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/18\/this-morning-dubai-oman-team-up-to-bypass-logistics-bottlenecks-ihc-signs-off-on-buyback-program-up-to-aed-5-bn\/\" style=\"\">Earlier in the war<\/a>, the two countries also teamed up in a temporary joint corridor to expedite procedures for sea and air cargo via Oman, which is located outside of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Market watch<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Oil prices dipped this morning as hopes rose for resumed Middle East supply after <\/strong><strong>Trump hinted at an Iran peace agreement, <\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/oil-prices-little-changed-ceasefire-holds-us-crude-stocks-fall-2026-05-05\/\" style=\"\">Reuters<\/a> reports. The company says the network includes more than 80k trailers, over 24k intermodal containers, and more than 100 aircraft \u2014 but still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/retail-consumer\/amazon-opens-up-its-logistics-network-other-businesses-2026-05-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">behind<\/a> FedEx and UPS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Market <\/strong><strong>reax<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> UPS and FedEx shares fell more than 9% after the launch \u2014 while the sell-off spread into other logistics names \u2014 with DHL down 7.3% and GXO down nearly 13%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Big <\/strong><strong>names are already<\/strong><strong> in play.<\/strong> Procter &amp; Gamble is using the network to move raw materials and finished goods; 3M is using it between manufacturing sites and distribution centers; Lands\u2019 End is using a unified inventory pool across sales channels; and American Eagle Outfitters is using Amazon\u2019s parcel network for direct-to-customer deliveries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Why it matters<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>UPS had already decided to shrink its Amazon exposure<\/strong>, with previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/ups-forecasts-2025-revenue-below-estimates-2025-01-30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans<\/a> to cut Amazon volumes by more than 50% by 2H 2026 and focus on fewer and more lucrative deliveries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Amazon makes it more complicated: <\/strong>Established carriers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/retail-consumer\/amazon-opens-up-its-logistics-network-other-businesses-2026-05-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spent years<\/a> pulling back from weaker e-commerce exposure and deeper into denser markets.
