style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Also in today\u2019s issue: <\/strong>We dive into the Egyptian government\u2019s latest efforts to ensure the oil keeps flowing \u2014 with Egypt buying up 3% of Libya\u2019s monthly oil production.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">The big logistics story abroad<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>US-Iran talks haven\u2019t made much headway yet. <\/strong>US President Donald Trump <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/06\/trump-iran-war-ceasefire-hormuz-strait.html\" style=\"\">shut down<\/a> Iran\u2019s 45-day ceasefire proposal, which he criticized for being \u201cnot good enough.\u201d Trump <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-06\/trump-says-reopening-hormuz-must-be-part-of-iran-ceasefire-deal?srnd=homepage-middle-east\" style=\"\">warned<\/a> that every bridge in Iran could be destroyed if a resolution \u2014 that reopens the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 was not reached by later today. \u201cThe entire country can be taken out in one night,\u201d Trump <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/livecoverage\/iran-war-latest-news-updates-2026?mod=WSJ_home_mediumtopper_pos_1\" style=\"\">said<\/a> during a news conference yesterday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Watch this space<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a> <\/strong> <strong>LNG \u2014 Two Qatari LNG tankers edge toward Hormuz: <\/strong>Al Daayen and Rasheeda \u2014 both loaded in late February \u2014 headed toward the strait before pulling back near Oman, leaving the market watching for what would be the first successful LNG export out of the Gulf since the war began, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-06\/ships-with-qatar-lng-attempt-first-hormuz-exit-since-war-started?srnd=phx-industries-energy\" style=\"\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing ship-tracking data. One vessel is signaling China, but destinations can change at any point. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>No clear restart yet:<\/strong> No loaded LNG cargo has made it through since the strikes began \u2014 and this still doesn\u2019t look like a breakout. The only <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/04\/06\/not-closed-not-opened-hormuz-becomes-a-managed-corridor\/\" style=\"\">recent transit<\/a> was an Oman-linked tanker that appeared to be empty, highlighting that flows remain effectively stalled despite limited vessel movement. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- The data itself comes with caveats \u2014 and that matters for how the market <\/strong><strong>reads this. <\/strong>Vessel tracking in the Gulf is degraded by electronic interference and deliberate AIS shutdowns in high-risk waters, meaning observed movements can lag reality or misrepresent positioning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>  <\/strong><strong>PORTS \u2014 East Port Said port received the largest dry bulk vessel <\/strong><strong>ever to berth at an <\/strong><strong>Egyptian port<\/strong>, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1CexiyKcEi\/\" style=\"\">statement<\/a> by the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The MV Paroship vessel arrived at the Sky Ports multipurpose terminal carrying around 180k tons of cargo from Mauritania, compared to the roughly 165k tons carried by the largest capesize vessel previously received there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters:<\/strong> The vessel\u2019s arrival signals that the port is pushing beyond its container-hub profile and into heavier bulk handling. In an effort to position itself as a regional trade and logistics hub, Egypt is upgrading its port infrastructure to receive more types of vessels and greater quantities of cargo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a> TRADE \u2014 <\/strong><strong>Iraq is reopening the taps, but buyers are in doubt:<\/strong> Iraq has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-06\/iraq-tells-buyers-to-collect-crude-as-its-oil-can-cross-hormuz?srnd=phx-industries-energy\" style=\"\">notified<\/a> traders and refiners that they can lift crude again, with vessels now able to transit Hormuz under Iranian exemption. State marketer Somo requested lifting schedules, including vessel details and volumes, and says all loading terminals \u2014 including Basrah \u2014 are fully operational. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The market isn\u2019t fully buying it:<\/strong> While Iraq typically sells on an FOB basis, leaving refiners to secure their own tankers, Asian buyers are now probing for clarity on conditions \u2014 including whether Iraq would step in with its own fleet to de-risk shipments. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>One already passed:<\/strong> The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alarabiya.net\/aswaq\/oil-and-gas\/2026\/04\/06\/%D8%AB%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AB-%D8%B3%D9%81%D9%8A%D9%86%D8%A9-%D9%85%D9%85%D9%84%D9%88%D9%83%D8%A9-%D9%84%D8%AA%D8%B1%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7-%D8%AA%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%B1-%D9%85%D8%B6%D9%8A%D9%82-%D9%87%D8%B1%D9%85%D8%B2-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B0-%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%AF%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AD%D8%B1%D8%A8-\" style=\"\">Turkish-owned<\/a> tanker, Ocean Thunder, successfully passed the strait loaded with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2026\/04\/06\/not-closed-not-opened-hormuz-becomes-a-managed-corridor\/\" style=\"\">1 mn barrels<\/a> of Basrah crude headed to Malaysia. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Elsewhere in Asia, gov\u2019ts are stepping up oil-security res<\/strong><strong>ponses<\/strong>: South Korean presidential chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik is heading to Saudi Arabia to secure crude oil and naphtha supplies, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/south-korea-envoy-visit-kazakhstan-oman-saudi-arabia-secure-oil-supplies-2026-04-07\/\" style=\"\">Reuters<\/a> reports. He kicks off his trip, which will also see him land in Kazakhstan and Oman, later today. Seoul relies on the Strait of Hormuz for over half of its crude imports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Market watch<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Oil<\/strong><strong> prices rose this morning as US President Donald Trump escalated threats against Iran <\/strong><strong>over reopening Hormuz<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-crude-oil-futures-rise-over-1-trump-sharpens-rhetoric-iran-2026-04-06\/\" style=\"\">Reuters<\/a> reports. Transport costs have spiked as industries \u2014 particularly oil production \u2014 shift operations from the east to the west to secure exports, leading to \u201ctime delays and increased costs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The backlog paradox: <\/strong>Though new business has slowed, work is piling up. Backlogs grew at their fastest pace since 2018, driven by freight delays and rising transport costs, while supplier delivery times hit their worst level since June 2020. This buildup suggests that \u201cunderlying demand remains present,\u201d Riyad Bank Chief Economist Naif Al-Ghaith noted in the report, adding that \u201cfirms responded prudently by adjusting purchasing activity, while inventory levels stayed relatively well-positioned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">UAE<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Growth in the UAE\u2019s non-oil private sector slowed to a significantly more subdued pace <\/strong><strong>in March<\/strong>, as the war in the Middle East undercut customer demand, snarled supply routes, and pushed input prices higher, according to S&amp;P Global\u2019s latest <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2026\/4\/214.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UAE PMI (pdf)<\/a>. The country\u2019s seasonally adjusted PMI slipped to 52.9, down from 55.0 in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/uae\/2026\/03\/05\/uaes-pmi-hits-one-year-high-of-55\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February<\/a>, marking the joint\u2011weakest reading since June 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The slowdown was expected.<\/strong> A major factor could be the \u201cgradual departure of foreign investors and foreign labor \u2014 particularly Europeans, Americans, and workers from other Western countries \u2014 from the UAE,\u201d Al Gaaod said. The rate of increase in purchase prices was the fastest since July 2024, prompting many firms to pass on costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The bottom line: <\/strong>The outlook hinges entirely on regional stability. \u201cThe more the war continues, and the closure of the strait persists, the more companies \u2014 especially those producing and exporting products \u2014 will suffer,\u201d Al Gaaod tells us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Egypt<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Egypt\u2019s non-oil private sector saw its fastest deterioration in operating conditions since <\/strong><strong>April 2024 in March,<\/strong> reflecting a sharp dip in output and new orders that saw them both hit their lowest levels in nearly two years, according to the latest S&amp;P Global <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2026\/4\/224.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Egypt PMI (pdf)<\/a>. The headline index fell for a fourth consecutive month, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/03\/04\/few-silver-linings-in-february-pmi-as-egyptian-private-sector-contraction-accelerates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropping 0.8 points from the month before<\/a> to 48.0 in March, placing it firmly below the 50.0 mark threshold that separates contraction from growth, which it has remained under for the last three months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The ongoing war in the region stands out as the primary drag on macroeconomic <\/strong><strong>momentum<\/strong>, with those surveyed reporting that the war has \u201cdampened client demand, partly through an increase in price pressures,\u201d according to the report.
